About

HIRE ATLANTA'S BEST COUPLES & MARRIAGE COUNSELORS!

Right now, you may feel frustrated. Perhaps you feel disconnected, dissatisfied, misunderstood, hurt, or lonely. Maybe you are struggling with something that recently happened--or that happened a long time ago--and your relationship never recovered. You keep falling back into the same dysfunctional pattern, and you just don't know how to stop it.

LEARN FROM THE BEST

Perhaps you tried other forms of "couples therapy" without success, and you're looking for something more effective. You may have never tried couples counseling before, but maybe you have reached the point where something needs to change in your relationship, and you don't want to waste your time and money on something that doesn't work.

GOTTMAN METHOD COUPLES COUNSELING CAN HELP

At Couples Counseling ATL, helping couples is our specialty; we are proud to use the most effective and evidence-based form of couples therapy available today.

We provide clinical supervision to new couples therapists, offer quarterly couples workshops, host continuing education events for therapists, and speaking engagements to groups of all kinds. Learn more about the world-renowned Gottman method of couples counseling here.

Learn more about us and pick your therapist by visiting our website at www.counselingatl.com

Then, when you're ready to get started....

STEP 1: Schedule your first free consultation phone call immediately at our website counselingatl.com

STEP 1: Your first session is 80 minutes, and is a video or in-person interview with both of you and your counselor.

STEP 2: At home on your own, each of you will complete a thorough online assessment separately called "The Relationship Checkup" before your individual meeting. It's 400 items, research-based, and takes about 1 - 1.5 hours to complete. Do not share answers with your partner.

STEP 3: You will then each schedule to meet with your counselor individually, alone with the counselor to discuss your own perspective on the relationship (one 45 minute session per person, can be on different days).

STEP 3: You will meet your counselor together for the "Feedback Session" where your counselor will discuss their perspective on your relationship, including your strengths and areas for growth as a couple, as well as your individualized treatment plan. Your treatment plan is a road map for how your counselor plans to help you to work on your goals (whether intimacy, communication, conflict, affair recovery, etc.), based on the decades of research by the Gottman Institute.

At Couples Counseling ATL, we use the most scientific, evidence-based interventions, including video-recording (to provide you with direct feedback to "watch yourself" later), pulse oximeters (measures your heart rate and blood oxygen level), worksheets (for education), and moment-by-moment feedback and coaching on your interactions.

If you're serious about improving your relationship to build lasting happiness and real connection, schedule your first consultation with us (free) here at our website counselingatl.com

We look forward to helping you improve your relationship!

We have the most highly trained, licensed couples therapists in the state of Georgia, with the first and only certified Gottman Method Couples therapist, and several others who have completed all three levels of Gottman method training. Unlike life coaches or relationship coaches, licensed psychotherapists have at least a Master's graduate degree in counseling and have passed licensure exams to prove their competency. We are also required by the state to take ongoing conintuing education in important counseling topics, and to uphold very high ethical and best-practices standards.

$175-300/ session (depending on counselor experience)

In 2013, Stephanie Cook, LCSW, CGT, founded Counseling ATL, LLC, because she wanted to help people transform their lives and thier relationships. Today, she is executive director of Couples Counseling ATL becuase she and her team of talented and well trained couples therapists are passionate about helping couples create real happiness and lasting connection using the most research-based forms of couples therapy today.

We have worked with couples and individuals of all backgrounds, and pride ourselves on being multiculturally informed and sensistive. We are LGBTQ-affirming allies.

We love leading couples workshops. Check out "The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work", our 1-day Saturday workshop for couples, based on the groundbreaking research by the Gottman Institute. This workshop teaches couples practical skills for building intimacy, improved communicaiton, healthy conflict, and deeper meaning and purpose.

Look for professional counselors who have excellent training in a research-based form of couples therapy such as Gottman method or EFT (Emotion focused) who both you and your partner believe would be a good fit for you both. Make sure when you meet with them that they seem both 1) caring (they seem to genuinely care about you both and your relationship) and 2) competent (they know what they're talking about and have excellent training to back it up).

Think about your goals, your budget, whether or not you need to see someone who works for your insurance panel, and whether or not the location and hours will work for you. Even the best couples therapist can't help you if you can't make it to see them because of a logistical barrier. Make sure you both really like the person. Too many couples "settle" with a therapist who can't help them becuase it's conveneint but they're just not a good fit, or they don't have good training. It's better to see a great therapist for several hours once per month than a mediocre therapist every week.
