Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
A client is either referrred to me, or finds my profile online. During a phone conversation, an intake specialist talks to the prospective client, gets some basic contact information from him or her, and collects a few case facts relevant to the personal injury case. From that first call, Mr. Head talks to the potential client, to fill in more details, and schedules the next step in the client intake procedure. Because some clients are incapacitated, due to their accident or medical injury, a meeting is scheduled ASAP, subject to the client's medical issues. If an agreement for personal injury attorney representation is reached, this is put in writing.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia in 1976. Thousands of hours of additional litigation and trial training over the last 42 years, at such organizations as AAFS.org, GTLA Champion Member, State Bar of Georgia.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
My contigency fee contract is based on multiple factors. First, regardless of the number of lawyers I select to work on the case, the client never pays extra. Second, the standard percentage fee for malpractice attorney agreements is higher than for non-medical error cases. The personal injury attorney fee is typically one0third to our Atlanta attorneys, but (with trial) can go up. Trial is rare, howver. In some cases, where money for available recovery is capped by the responsible party's dismally low liability insurance, I have lowered our fee percentage. Medical lawyer fees are at 40%, due to the high complexity and costs of pursuing such claims.
How did you get started in this business?
My father, a World War II drill sergeant, told me that I could either be a doctor or a lawyer, and to "pick one."
I chose to focus on being an attorney.
What types of customers have you worked with?
People from every walk of life, from billionaires to blue collar workers. I treat all people the same.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
In a Cobb County accident case, our personal injury lawyers helped a male client in his early 50s. He was acting as a good Samaritan in helping a man push a stalled vehicle off the road. A negligent driver drove into them, as they pushed the immobile vehicle. Our client lost a leg in a car accident, and the owner of the disabled vehicle died (not our client).
Through case investigation, negotiations and a successful mediation, our client received HALF of the available $1.5 million settlement.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Start with REAL legal industry credentials. Only THREE peer-reviewed services should be considered, since others are not selective enough or do not undergo sufficient scrutiny by other legal professionals in their community:
bestlawyers.com
superlawyers.com
martindale.com
All other lawyer ratings providers are suspect or just plain bogus. Too many pay-to-play services are out there.
Next, TALK to the prospective lawyer FACE to FACE. You should use your same judgment in retaining a personal injury lawyer as if you were selecting a surgeon to perform life-threatening surgery on you or a loved one.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
For some clients, the timing of how long an Atlanta Personal Injury Lawyer might take to wrap up the case is critically important. For others, the client wants to "stay the course" for whatever time is needed to achieve the highest award, even if that means a trial. Be frank and candid with your personal injury attorney.
