Emma Killian Counseling, LLC
About
As a mental health counselor, my hope is that my office can be a place where you can speak what feels unspeakable, and where you are seen, heard and valued. I strive to create a safe and caring space for my clients to discover the impact that different experiences and relationships can have on one's life.
My heart has always opened up to people who need care, love, advocacy and acceptance to embrace who they really are. My background and education has prepared me to work with a wide range of clients. With a masters degree in both Counseling and Special Education (specalizing in Autism), I believe I can connect on a deeper level with those that I help.
Through an integrative, attachment-oriented approach to counseling, I specialize in working with individuals, couples and families struggling with anxiety, depression, relational issues, low self-esteem, parenting troubles, grief, disability, burnout, and body image issues. I also am certified in premarital counseling.
Both healing and fundamental change is possible when you choose to invest your time and energy into exploring feelings, behaviors, relationships and your own sense of self. Each one of us has our own unique story which deserves to be heard. I can promise you this journey will be worth it. So choose joy. Choose love. Choose yourself.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
When working with a new client, it is important for them to feel a safe connection in which they are able to fully be themselves and speak to what is painful or uncomfortable in their lives. Research has proven that the most beneficial and healing aspect of counseling is the relationship between counselor and client. With that said, the counseling relationship has to be built with trust, vulnerability and unconditional positive regard from the counselor. Emma's first goal is to always establish this type of therapeutic relationship with her clients so that when they enter their pain, they are not alone in it.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Before becoming a mental health counselor, Emma taught special education for several years after receiving her masters degree at Florida State University in Exceptional Student Education. In the classroom, she worked with a variety of disabilities ranging from learning difficulties, to autism and other developmental disabilities. After teaching, Emma decided to return to school to obtain her second masters degree in mental health counseling. She is very passionate about the work that she is doing and is continuing to stay up to date with new treatments through trainings and continuing education.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Emma charges $100 for a 50-minute session. Since she does not accept insurance, she never wants finances to serve as a barrier in a person’s search for mental health and is able to work on a sliding scale for those who qualify. When she is not able to personally meet a client’s needs due to financial constraints, she will provide additional community resources.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Emma has experience working with people with a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, autism, parenting troubles, trauma, grief, and relational issues. She is also certified in premarital counseling.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Counseling is recommended when you notice that your mental health is starting to negatively impact your life. This may manifest itself through stress, anxiety, relational dissatisfaction, anger, or a number of other emotional realities. Ideally, counseling is a part of preventative care much like other healthcare services but it can be beneficial no matter what level of distress you are currently experiencing. Don't be afraid to speak your needs to find a counselor that would be a best fit for you.
