Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For many clients, deciding to engage in therapy is not a spur of the moment decision. It is something that they have thought about for awhile. I am so proud and excited when new clients reach out and get help. What a life changing decision! When you call, you will be booked for an intake appointment. You will then be emailed the intake forms and have them filled out prior to the appointment. During the first session, together we will explore what brought you to therapy, the nature of your problems, and determine together the best course of action. Each individual and couple has a specific treatment plan tailored to their needs and goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have my Bachelor of Science in Business from University of South Carolina and my Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Palm Beach Atlantic. I am currently a registered mental health intern with the State of Florida. I have honorably served in the military for 20 years, was a teacher with the Orange County school system, and have pastored a local church while offering pastoral counseling for 20+ years.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Having been a youth pastor, I have a heart and a passion for teens. I enjoy working with young men and women to develop identity, learn healthy boundaries, and to guide parents on how to raise healthy children. I also love transforming couples marriages. Having been married myself for over 40 years, I know marriage can be difficult, but with the right tools and relationship skills, having a meaningful and connected marriage is possible.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Experience is valuable, but is not always the most important aspect to look for when choosing a therapist. Look for a counselor who is compassionate and understanding. Every individual should feel comfortable, understood and supported by their therapist.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
What is bringing you to therapy now?
How do you want to feel once your problem is resolved?
What goals are you looking to achieve?
What have you done to solve your problems in the past?
