Lawyers say that criminal attorneys see bad people at their best, while family law attorneys see good people at their worst. *But* as a mediator, I see good people at their best. It's an honor to be a part of that.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We always begin with a free joint consultation. Purely informational, the consultation helps you and your spouse learn about the mediation process, which questions to ask yourself to determine whether it's right for you, and the exact costs and timeline for your process. There's no preparation required, and no decisions to make while there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am an attorney licensed to practice before all State and Federal California courts. I am a highly trained certified professional mediator, a volunteer court mediator, and a Professor of Law instructing students in cooperative divorce practices.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
All services are fixed fee. We offer 6 packages, priced between $2900 and $7500 per couple. Approximately 80% of our clients pay $3600 or less. We'll guide you in choosing the package that will work best for you. Since you aren't charged by the minute, you stay in control of your fees, and can relax into the process without worry of escalating costs.
How did you get started in this business?
Out of law school, I became a courtroom divorce attorney. I lost every case. Either I lost, or I settled into an agreement where both parties were equally unhappy. Sometimes I even prevailed, but the destruction of the family, the financial and emotional costs of the process, and the enduring acrimony between prior spouses...it was still a loss.
I decided to leave court forever to build a cooperative divorce practice that would be built from the ground up to facilitate a more affordable, efficient, positive, and productive process. Since then, I have successfully assisted hundreds of people over many thousands of hours in mediation. Now, I never lose.
What types of customers have you worked with?
We work with people who want to stay out of court, but need the guidance of a professional attorney mediator to assist with all legal paperwork, provide all relevant legal, financial, and parenting information, facilitate productive communication, and ensure that final agreements are properly drafted into enforceable orders.
We work with clients who have no assets, and clients with multi-million dollar estates. With children, and without. With small businesses, government pensions, and executive compensation. We've seen it all, and we tailor each package to the specific needs of each divorcing couple.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
There are NO REQUIREMENTS to be a mediator in California. There is no requirement for training, education, experience, ethics or insurance! The best mediators are: 1) family law attorneys who are certified mediators 2) who devote most or all of their practice to mediation 3) carry malpractice insurance, and 4) have at least 2500 hours' mediation experience. Please don't hesitate to ask these questions of any mediator. Divorce is a stressful time, and you deserve a mediator you can feel totally confident in.
