Carolyn B. Cooper, LMFT, SEP, SAP, EMDR
About
As a private practice psychotherapist based in SF & San Rafael, I primarily work with adults, but also love to assist children in turning addressing symptoms from a strengths-based approach. To do so, I integrate SE, CBT, NeuroAffective Touch, EMDR, Solution-Focused Therapy, Stages of Change, Motivational Interviewing, Drama, Art & Play Therapy techniques.
Iam comfortable working with a range of challenges: Trauma, mood & anxiety disorders, relationship issues, substance abuse &/or process addiction (compulsive gambling, shopping, sex), codependency, life transitions, career-related decisions, existential questions.
Somatic Experiencing takes healing to a deeper level, in a way that continually moves me. Combined with ‘top-down’ approaches, it helps identify strengths and intentions beneath painful survival patterns. Shame, fear and anger often transform into vital life energy, which enables a shift to more dignified, masterful thriving.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First, it can be helpful to speak 10-20 minutes to confirm we are a good fit. Phone or video calls work well for this introduction.
Initially, a weekly appointment works well to establish mutual understanding of issues to be addressed, respective backgrounds and developing a treatment plan to achieve identified therapy goals effectively.
Next, we may develop strategies to support clients with their challenges between sessions. Clients sometimes stop with this phase reasonably well established.
Finally, some clients continue on a weekly or reduced frequency schedule to deepen the practices created above, to further process trauma or other undigested experiences, and/or for ongoing personal growth.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Please check my public LinkedIn profile for a detailed description of my experience, education and training. Over the past 25 years I have far exceeded the legal mandates for continuing professional education on a quest to develop a broad toolbox and expertise implementing it.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Psychotherapy sessions are $200/50 minutes. I also perform assessments for various purposes, as well as expert witness testimony in 3 counties.
