About
Dr Rob Chester
Ph.D., LPC, MHSP, ADHD-CCSP
Dr. Rob Chester is a licensed professional counselor, educator, author, and founder of Tree of Life Counseling & Consulting Services, LLC. Established in August 2019, his practice has served clients for seven years, drawing on his more than 30 years of clinical counseling experience with children, adolescents, adults, and families.
He holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Counseling with an emphasis in Teaching and Supervision and is a Licensed Professional Counselor with the Mental Health Service Provider designation. His specialized training includes certification as an ADHD Certified Clinical Services Provider and training and certification in the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS). His experience spans emergency shelters, behavioral schools, correctional facilities, psychiatric hospitals, medical and pediatric clinics, and private practice. He previously served as an assistant professor at Meharry Medical College, working in a pediatric clinical setting.
Dr. Chester loves helping people make sense of their experiences, recognize who they are at their core, and discover ways to move forward. He values the moments when understanding becomes a practical choice—a healthier boundary, a different response to hurt, or a more purposeful way of relating to others.
What distinguishes his practice is the Multidimensional Approach to Therapy (MAT), which he developed to connect emotional, cognitive, physical, spiritual, and social dimensions of life. His collaborative, nonjudgmental approach helps clients explore core identity, hurt, boundaries, strengths, and patterns of functioning. Spirituality is included when relevant to the client’s beliefs and goals. MAT helps patients understand how they got here and build tools to move forward within therapy and beyond.
His special skills include ADHD assessment and counseling, developmental understanding, relationship and intimacy work, and helping clients examine how the meaning they assign to experiences shapes their emotional responses. Through MAT, he helps clients identify protective patterns, consider alternative interpretations, and practice responses that better reflect their identity and goals.
Dr. Chester also founded Tree of Life Publishing, LLC, extending his work through books, guided resources, and professional education. He is the author of Multidimensional Approach to Therapy: Tools For A Lifetime and Entering His Rest, and the creator of the MAT Practitioner Course. Across counseling, teaching, and publishing, his aim is to equip people with tools they can return to as they continue to grow.
