Integrative Psychotherapy LLC
About
My practice flows from a deep belief in the healing properties of focused attention and radical acceptance. These elements, when combined in a structured format, have the power to transform your life and create a coherent Self.
The process, itself, rests on three pillars which together facilitate an alchemically transform in the core of your being, permitting you to access the vast reservoir of creativity and joy that is in you. The first two pillars are relationship; the relationship between us, as therapist and client, and, the relationship between the many aspects of yourself, some of which have been disowned and exiled. The third pillar is comprised of a number of clinical techniques that weave together the spiritual, the emotional, the physiological (body-soma), and the cognitive (belief structures).
This powerful synthesis of body-centered therapies and spiritual practice is particularly effective in helping those individuals who have difficulty articulating their feelings as well as those people who are highly intellectual and can get lost in words.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Initially, I may speak with a new patient on the phone. Some people prefer to simply come in and begin the process face-to-face.
Regarless of how we choose to communicate, I usually begin with talking with you about your goals, and what things you wish to address. During this process I begin to work with you to help you to become more aware of what is happening in your body as we speak, and to help you to experience a sense of "safe enough" in the moment.
Often we also speak about the different modalities that I can use and determine what feels like it would be most helpful.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a PhD in Behavioral Health/Somatic Psychology, and MSW in Clinical Social Work and numerous trainings and certifications. I am a life long student and attend at least 100 hours of training a year so that I keep abreast of emerging modalities and hone my skills in the modalities I have already been trained in.
Specifically:
I am a mental health and organization development professional with over 30 years experience providing clinical services, conducting professional seminars in the US and internationally, creating and managing organizations, and consulting to for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. In in addition to my private practice I offers courses in powerful, somatically-informed, treatment modalities that bridge the gap between mind and body. I am an ASCH certified Hypnotherapist/Consultant, an EMDR certified consultant, and a certified BrainSpotting (BSP) consultant and trainer. I also offer training in Crisis Communication and Crisis Response as well as training in the Mandala of Being, a Multi-Modal Approach to Spiritual and Psychological Practice. How did you get started in this business?
Wow..
I wanted to be an interior decorator until I was 13. At that time I had a conversation with a friend who told me that he was very upset about something. After he was done speaking I said to him.. John, I think that you might actually be upset about something else and he agreed. It was as if a light bulb went off in my head... this was something that I really enjoyed doing and had some aptitude for. From that time on I knew that I would become a therapist.
I do have to note that the seed had probably been planted long before that as my aunt was a therapist, my uncle a clinical researcher, my mom an educational psychologist and we had numerous family friends in the "business".
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with families, couples and individuals of all ages (3-85).
Their issues and desires are as varied as their ages.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Make sure that you are comfortable with them and that they are responsive and curious.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Since I am a big proponant of letting the experience unfold rather than analyzing it I would say that the only question people need to ask themselves is how will I know if it feels like a good fit.
