Dr. Ilene Donin, PhD
About
I have been a practicing psychologist for nearly 30years. Trained as a counseling and rehabilitation therapist, I have enjoyed helping people to attain a greater level of self awareness and self acceptance. In addition to addressing issues including anxiety, depression, life transitions, couple challenges and interpersonal difficulties, I am particularly interested in helping those suffering from chronic pain. I believe in the strength of the mind body relationship and have successfully helped people to connect with deep seated emotions that have manifested in a variety of physical symptoms. I love what I do and find great fulfillment in helping people to achieve their counseling objectives. In addition to my clinical work, I have been an adjunct professor in graduate school and a supervisor of psychology interns.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Initially, my goal is to establish trust and a comfort level that allows new clients to feel accepted. I believe this can best be achieved by an atmosphere of "no judgment".
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a masters degree which allowed me to use my counseling skills in college counseling centers, corporate environments and hospital settings. My doctoral education included an internship in which I focused on clients who were both hospitalized patients suffering from traumatic brain injuries and outpatient individuals with chronic pain syndromes.
How did you get started in this business?
I have always wanted to work in the field of mental health. Through internships as a masters and doctoral level student, I was convinced that psychology was the right career choice for me.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Adults from the ages of 18 to seniors. Married and cohabitating couples. Brain injured patients and those plagued with chronic pain.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
I always suggest that people shop around until they've met a clinician with whom the chemistry is positive. I tell people to trust their gut.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Potential clients should question a clinician's experience, philosophy and clinical approach.
