About
Psychotherapy is more than something people do when something in their life goes wrong. It is a unique opportunity to take a moment to examine where you are in life, who you are in it, and where you want to go. It is one of the only activities where you can take a step back from the tumult of your day-to-day life to figure out what is going on and take the time to discover what it is you want from life. By taking a closer look at what concerns you and confiding details about your life in a person you can trust, you will likely find better way to live with the unavoidable suffering that life brings as well as ways to work through the problems that face you in your daily life.
For many, therapy with me feels like a conversation with a close friend, the sort to whom you feel comfortable saying anything. Yet, because of my background in psychoanalysis, my patients and I invariably work towards truths about themselves and the worlds they live in that were not apparent to them when they first started therapy. The process of discovery and inquiry that follows sheds light on the problems that brought them to therapy to begin with and often the patient uses what they learn in these conversations to shape a better way through their life. Through this journey of self-discovery and the process of confiding in another person they come to trust, it is not uncommon for patients to feel a degree of freedom and confidence that they never imagined possible.
