    Frequently asked questions

I provide a complimentary phone call to discuss the clients needs and make a mutual decision on whether it seems a good match. With couples, I talk to each of them separately, since it's so important that both are on board, and that they both know I am neutral and devoted to assisting both of them to find greater joy and satisfaction in their relationship.

My education includes a bachelor's degree, two master's degrees and a Ph.d. in clinical psychology. I have been the Director of a Master's program in psychology where I trained psychotherapists and sex therapists. For more than 20 years, I have had the privilege to assist all kinds of couples and individuals of all ethnicities.

I treasure the process of assisting individuals and couples to repair or enrich their lives and relationships. The work is privileged. I know the anatomy of inner space like my own two hands. My task is to provide unconditional positive regard for those who honor me with their trust.
It's been my joy to work with many, many kinds of people--most races and religions as well as the unaffiliated. I welcome teens, young adults, those in midlife and those who are older. What makes therapy effective is a strong, supportive relationship between client and therapist. For several years now, I have been working remotely only. Surprisingly to some, this is very effective and convenient.
A middle aged couple consulted me when they were uncertain whether their relationship could endure after infidelity and the loss of an adolescent child. I helped them acknowledge and process their grief first, and then taught them how their communication could be more effective. They learned that apologies and appreciations could help them heal. They forgave each other and the marriage became stronger than ever before.
Training and licensure are important, but it's the quality of the relationship between client and therapist that makes the difference. In individual therapy, the client should feel unwavering support and acceptance. In couples therapy, it's crucial that the therapist remain neutral, offering compassionate understanding to both parties.
    1. What are your primary goals for the counseling process? 2. Don't hesitate to question the pro about his or her experience and training. 3. Pay close attention to your emotional response to the pro. It's crucial to feel that you can trust the prospective therapist. 4. Decide whether you are able and willing to invest time and money in a process which may last some months or longer. 5. Feel free to contact more than one pro, and continue until you are satisfied with your choice.
