In The Moment Child And Family Therapy LLC
About
I work from a Person-Centered, Positive and Strength-based approach. I believe that relationships can be a primary method of healing and I focus on forming a trusting "team" approach with the clients that I work with. I find satisfaction in helping my clients to overcome past trauma, feelings of low self-worth, depression/anxiety or problems from their family of origin. I specialize in working with children and families, and offer Parent Coaching using evidence-based approaches.
Before becoming a therapist I worked as an Early Childhood Educator for 20+ years and loved working with children and families. I saw and experienced first hand how powerful counseling could be for myself and for the families I worked with. Becoming a Christian therapist has been rewarding beyond my expectations. I know what it means to overcome difficulties and find ways around barriers.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
As a part of my process, I offer a free initial consultation to new clients. Counseling is a very personal relationship and it`s important to find out if I'm a good fit for you. When the decision is made to move forward, I have an intake, informed consent and other paperwork to be filled out by the client. As we get to know each other, I will ask questions to find out more about how I can help.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Kathleen Harwood MS, NCC, LPC, LMFT-IT, CPC. Kathleen has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, a graduate degree in Community Counseling from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and is also a Certified Parenting Coach. She entered counseling following a 20 year career working with parents and children ages birth to 18 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
I work mostly on a private pay basis although I will bill insurances on an out-of-network basis for clients who prefer. The reason I do this is because insurance companies require me to provide a diagnosis before they will pay a claim. This information goes on my clients medical records and dimishes privacy. However, I use a sliding fee scale based on income/individual circumstances that is often much less than my full fee of $100/session.
How did you get started in this business?
After a long career working with children and families in varied capacities, I was able to fulfill a decades-old goal to become a licensed professional counselor. I am blessed to work with individuals, couples and families as a part of the counseling ministry of Resurrection Lutheran Church (WELS).
