What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I will generally try to speak with a new client by phone first to determine what services they need and then inform them of what they will need to bring to our first meeting in order to maximize the efficiency of our time together. In doing so, I can often have their taxes done with one visit instead of 3 or 4.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold both a Bachelor's degree and a Masters degree in Accounting. I have also taken several CPE courses online to keep current with new laws.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
When it comes to taxes, my pricing system is based on the type of forms needed for the return on which I'm working.
For other services such as bookkeeping, I have an hourly rate.
How did you get started in this business?
I was doing temporary jobs through Robert Half and Accountemps when I realized what companies were paying for my services. I told one fellow that if he hired me directly on a contract basis, that I'd save him 33% over what he was paying Accountemps for my services. Needless to say, he was thrilled at the prospect of saving that kind of money and so Schulze and Co was born.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I've done taxes and bookkeeping for everything from Individuals to C-Corporations and even Non-profits.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Don't hire an accountant who claims to know it all. The best accountants are the ones who are willing to say "I don't know, but I can find out."
