Colt & Associates, PC
About
We provide tax preparation for all returns: personal, business, trusts, estates, non-profits, etc. What makes us stand out is our personal connection to our clients and availability to them throughout the year. We are not a "cubicle" type organization.
I've always been a math person, so the logic portion of tax preparation is something I love putting together and finding the best results for my clients. I also provide payroll and bookkeeping services throughout the year.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Our typical process is to meet with all clients and we mark out a full hour of time, so as not to feel rushed. With clients who are farther away, we can do phone or Skype appointments and again make sure they have a full hour for any questions or concerns.
We use a triple check system. A licensed preparer does the intake (initial appointment) writes up an estimated result, another licensed preparer then prepares the actual return using the documents, then a checker looks over to see that all information is entered correctly (Name, socials, addresses, income, etc.)
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a licensed tax preparer for 20 years, which requires 30 hours a year of continuing education. 4 years ago, I upgraded my license to licensed tax consultant, which involved more education and testing. Our specialized service provides experts in personal, corporate, trust, estate, and clergy returns, as well as non-profits.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Our pricing is form based. So while each form price varies, the most common are the 1040 & state return for $200 and the Schedule A for $60. Additional schedules based on investments, Earned Income Credit, etc., all vary in price.
We also provide discounts of $10 each for referrals, $10 for Early Bird Discount (getting everything to us by Feb 28), and a Gold Star Discount of $10 for bringing everything needed at the intake interview. Many of our clients take advantage of all of these to bring their fee down.
How did you get started in this business?
I began 25 years ago as a seasonal tax preparer for another employer who allowed me to work my own schedule around my family. I also have a BA in Education, with a minor in Mathematics. As the business grew and the former owner prepared for retirement, he offered to sell me the business. I now work year round preparing taxes, providing payroll and bookkeeping services, too.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with every type. I have clients who work several jobs, own rentals, own businesses, clergy, students, etc.
