Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We usually talk about what the clients needs are and how things have been done currently. What do they want to change, what has been going wrong, need to improve. If they are a new business or want to start a business we discuss how they want to structure and the requirements that are needed for that industry at that time.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have three college degrees.
AS - Accounting from Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Oregon
BS - Business with a focus in Accounting/Auditing from Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Oregon
MS - Masters in Accounting focused in Forensic Accounting from Southern New Hampshire University in New Hampshire
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
I usually try and price my clients as a package for a monthly budget. Example, if they have payroll for 5 people for every other week and they want us to do the bookkeeping with 5 accounts and we are doing detailed accounting we would come up with a price that would encompass all of that. We would take in account; quarterlies, W2's, EOY processing for payroll, bank reconciliation is on a monthly basis so that is taken care of already, but for this company it may be $500 per month. It really depends on the needs of the company, the frequency of payroll, etc.
How did you get started in this business?
I worked for a casino as a main banker and cashier, I have also worked for truck stops as a cashier. I then decided to go back to school and get some official education. I then worked for a mulit-million dollar import company for 7 years and felt it was time to branch out on my own. So here we are.
What types of customers have you worked with?
We work with everyone:
Non-Profit's
Taverns
Barbershops
Construction
Insurance agencies
Seniors
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I did a Medicare engagement where I spoke about the importance of Power of Attorneys, Advance Directives and Wills as my office also provides Notary services. I found out afterwards that it was a hit with those that were there and from other vendors. That makes a person feel good and know that what they are doing is important.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Research more than one, also do your own research, don't just go to one unless you are using another clients information as reference. You need to feel good about the company you are going to entrust with your company.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Do they know your industry?
If it is construction, can they job cost?
What is perpetual inventory?
Depending on the industry the questions can go on and on.
