Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Usually clients will either call or come in person to my office. It is a good time to get to know one another. It is important to feel comfortable with your tax professional because of the nature of the information and issues that will be discussed. Trusting the professional to be honest and forthright is a must.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been doing tax returns for 25 years and I am an Enrolled Agent licensed by the IRS to represent clients in tax matters.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
The cost of the tax return depends on its complexity and the amount of work involved in doing it correctly. There are occasions when research is required to deal with a tax matter correctly to get the best outcome for the client. The forms, worksheets and other work required to do an accurate return will govern its cost.
How did you get started in this business?
I came into this business due to my own ignorance! I didn't know how to do a tax return and decided to learn how. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to take the necessary training to learn more and eventually took the IRS exam for Enrolled Agent. I enjoy working with people and more importantly helping them get the best outcome, using the tax code to do it.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have a variety of clients, including small businesses, couples with both young children and college age students, investment income from a variety of assets, rental and corporate income. i also do tax returns from small corporations and trusts.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A client who ended up with a small refund instead of a balance due on a tax return after telling him about a strategy allowed by the tax code. He was ecstatic that he didn't owe any more money to the government!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
There are several questions to ask when hiring a tax pro.
1. Do they have a PTIN as required by IRS?
2. Do they have a good reputation (check on the internet)?
3. Talk to the person to see if you feel comfortable and that they are available when you have questions, even outside the tax season.
4. Have they ever asked you to do questionable things or things that make you uncomforable? Then run... don't walk!
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
1.What do I expect from a tax pro?
2. Do I have the information I think I need to have a productive conversation?
3. Am I willing to co-operate with the pro when asked for information that may be unavailable immediately, which I will have to dig for.
4. Am I willing to be completely honest with the pro?
