Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new client?
Our typical process is to start with an initial consultation to get to know one another and agree on services needed. I would then assign a staff accountant to the client. The staff accountant would make contact and proceed to file any forms needed to set up business. I would always be available to consult with client. I am always reviewing the clients financials and I prepare all of the tax returns in the office. I would also want to help client with tax planning before year end to maximize tax savings.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. I have worked in the Accounting Profession for 34 years and have had my own practice for 23 of those years.
Do you have a standard pricing system? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing is based on hours spent at a billable rate. Tax returns are priced based on forms prepared and complexity of the return.
How did you get started?
I started my practice after working for another CPA for 10 years. My children were small and I started out part-time. By the time my daugher was three, I was working full time. I worked for twelve years with a group of CPA's until my practice had grown and I needed more space. I now have 5 accountants working for me and an administrative staff of 2 people.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I prepare small business returns (SCorp) (CCorp) (LLC)
I work with Oil & Gas Clients
I prepare Individual Returns
I prepare Trust and Estate Returns
I prepare Non-Profit Returns (990, 990N, 990PF)
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was able to hire my daughter recently as my Administrative Assistant and Marketing Director. She graduated from OU with a degree in Marketing. She worked with us for about 9 months until she got the opportunity to move on in the marketing field. It was fun to work with her and build her business skills and to have her help us with our Marketing and Customer Service.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a professional in your area of expertise?
Look for someone that has an experienced staff. Laws change so rapidly in this business that you need professionals who have experienced a lot over the years and can help you manage your business issues and individual tax issues. Also, look for a firm that can help you manage all of your financial issues, not just your tax return. I have working relationships with financial planners, attorneys, and bankers to help make sure your entire financial and estate picture is healthy and strong.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their needs?
I would consider what your budget is for accounting services and how important they are for your business's success.
