For social media and search engine marketing, I run campaigns on a trial basis for up to 21 days - I will set up and optimize the campaign for free during this time, while the client pays only for ad spend. After this time frame, if the client wants to continue to use my services, we negotiate a monthly retainer. For SEO clients, I charge an upfront fee to prepare their website for indexing by the major search engines, and prepare content for the maximum number of keywords they choose. I guarantee multiple 1st page listings on the major search engines within 90 days of our engagement; if that doesn't happen, I will refund their money. I've never had to give anyone their money back though!
