Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I always work to explain everything as the forms are being prepared. I encourage the client to ask questions, and I will take the time to research something I am not completely certain abount.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Masters Degree in Accounting
Former Enrolled Agent
Current AFSP participant
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Everything is form based - for example
1040 return with no additional forms/schedules - $60
PA state return with no additional schedules - $35
Local returns - $10
All other forms/schedules have specific charges
There is no additional charge for e-filing them. You pay me to prepare your taxes, not to just file them.
How did you get started in this business?
It's sort of by accident. I worked for 6 years in an IRS lockbox facility (1 as a temp, and 5 as an employee). After the site closed, I started working for a small, independent firm the very next year. After taking 1 year off after the firm split up, I returned to work with them until an untimely hospital stay in late March of 2015. At that point, it was agreed to that I would depart that firm, and the decision was made at that point to strike out on my own.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with a wide variety of clients from the straight forward to the complex. I specialize in working with self-employed, landlords, OTR drivers and small business.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Anytime I get a chance to be at some kind of event, be it our local Community Day in July, or the High School Vendor Fair in November, I enjoy. I get a chance to be out and about talking to other business owners to see what accounting or tax issues they seeem to run into, and how I might be able to help them.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Experience counts. A study done in the past has shown that going to a chain outfit is risky at best. Many of the preparers there are not really equipped to handle returns that are beyond just the W-2.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
THe biggest one I can think of:
Am I confident enough in my knowledge of the tax laws that I can do this myself? Who do I turn to if I am not sure?
