Dr. Courtney O’Brien, PhD
About
I specialize in anxiety, depression, sexuality and addiction. My area of expertise is unique in that I work with all concerning issues as they are related to the individual. I take a bio-psycho-social approach to gain a comprehensive understanding of their physical, mental, emotional, and social state of being. One must always remember that to treat only the symptom is to neglect the problem.
It is gratifying to watch a client accomplish their personal and emotional goals. In this process, they may be overcoming tragedy, gaining closure with trauma or grief, learning to trust again, forgiving themselves and others, or overcoming some form of addiction, depression, or anxiety. My career has been a fantastic journey. As it has showed me how perfectly imperfect we all are, it has also showed me how commitment, hope, and humility can help those who are struggling.
My credentials are as follows:
PhD, in Psychology
MHR of Human Relations
LPC, Licensed Professional Counselor
BA of Psychology

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Sessions are one hour long and generally begin with questions to familiarize me with what you are needing help with.
There is no specific number of sessions required. You go at your own pace. However, your health is a reflection of the effort put into it.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.

How did you get started in this business?
I had brain surgery.
I became a personal trainer at a hospital after quitting college my sophomore year. I was eager to make money, hated school, and had epilepsy, (which prevented me from doing most things). I liked sports though. Sports took my mind off of being an epileptic and feeling stupid because I couldn’t do well in school. In my twenties, I was able to have brain surgery. I do not have most of my right temporal lobe and seizures no longer control my freedom. My personal training business proved to be a blessing. I learned that people just need to feel liked, important, and supported on a personal journey to change or better their life. Ten years in the training business taught me how to believe in myself and restart and complete my academic goals As a result, I now have a mental health private practice.
