About

I am a board-certified psychiatrist trained in both medication management and psychotherapy to treat a wide variety of psychiatric disorders. Prior to pursuing a career in psychiatry and psychotherapy in the U.S., I also had formal training and extensive clinical experience in primary care medicine in Japan.

With expertise both in psychiatry and primary care medicine, I combine traditional psychiatric treatment and integrative medicine-based treatment to optimize the well-being of the mind and body as a whole. I have a private practice on the Upper West Side and in Edgewater, NJ.

I am also on staff at Mount Sinai St. Luke's and West Hospitals, where I am an Attending Psychiatrist in the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program and am an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Frequently asked questions

Your psychological well-being is shaped by multiple inter-related systems, such as medical, psychiatric psychological, social, behavioral, lifestyle, cultural, and spiritual. Trained in traditional psychiatry, psychoanalysis, and primary care medicine, Dr. Matsuki works within multiple systems to have a global understanding of issues affecting you, and develop a multi-system plan to address these issues.

Dr. Matsuki does his initial assessment in 1 to 2 sessions, each approximately 60 minutes. The comprehensive in-person assessment will include a deep exploration of your current condition, current stressors, mental health history, medical history, and life history. Diagnostic testing is often recommended to rule in or out any medical issue that may manifest itself as a psychiatric illness and to explore any nutritional deficiencies that can be addressed using supplements and life style modifications.

After a thorough evaluation, Dr. Matsuki will discuss a personalized treatment plan including recommended frequency and modes of treatment (medication management, psychotherapy, life style modification, exercise program, diet modification, supplement, management of an underlying medical condition, etc.). If he thinks you need a treatment that is outside the scope of his practice, he will refer you to appropriate specialists.

Please contact Dr. Matsuki for an initial consultation regarding fee schedules. Out-of-pocket amount varies based on: insurance benefits, what portion of your deductible has been met and your co-pay amounts. Dr. Matsuki also offers a sliding scale fee under certain circumstances.
