EDUCATION
A Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician, in practice for 35 years, Dr. Demetri Meimaris is a 1984 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic, in Davenport, IA–the founding college of the chiropractic profession. Operating under Meimaris Sports Chiropractic and Physical Therapy in Hackensack, Bergen County, New Jersey.
Dr. Meimaris’ postgraduate work at New York College of Chiropractic for Sports Certification and Diplomate Sports Physician Candidate, 1993, 1995 respectively. His chiropractic practice employs a vast knowledge of sports and accidental injuries as well as clinical expertise that is admired by his peers.
He utilizes Palmer diversified and Cox flexion-distraction technique. He a strong cooperative background with referrals to other professions including but not limited to orthopedists, neurologists and pain management specialtists.
Dr. Meimaris specializes in family care, sports injuries and auto accident pain management. He also employs manipulation under anesthesia when required for those especially unique and difficult cases.
LOCATIONS
Dr. Meimaris’ practice location is at 31 Mercer Street, Suite 1a, in Hackensack, NJ–near Hackensack University Medical Center. That number is 201-487-3131. Formerly having an offices in Englewood, Kenilworth, and Mahwah has moved and invited his patients to join him in Hackensack, (which is 8 miles west of the George Washington Bridge) promoting functional based treatment which includes working with patients who lack conditioning or have had medical set backs.
The practice is not limited to sports injuries. This falls in line with delivering the usual gold standard of chiropractic care as Dr. Meimaris always has.
The north New Jersey office is centrally located in Hackensack just north of the Bergen County Courthouse on Mercer Street which is between Main Street and State Street. Located just off Routes 4, 17, 46 and 80.
AFFILIATION WITH FIRST RESPONDERS, SPORTS TEAMS AND PRO ATHLETES
Dr. Meimaris is on the forefront of taking care of our First Responders. While on the job, First Responders are subjected to many physical and emotional triggers/stresses encountered on a daily basis, for this, Dr. Meimaris has specific plans in place for all Public Servants.
The same focus on patients who are athletes, with management of professional and semi pro athletes for Wrestling, (Greco-Roman); Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). He provides chiropractic care for pro MMA fighter Katlyn Chookagian, a/k/a #BlondeFighter, and UFC Bellator Bantamweight Champion Joe Warren.
He was sports chiropractor from 2011 to 2015 former UFC World Champion Ricco Rodriguez, and from 1991 to 2003, Team Doctor for the USA Karate National Team. Prior to martial arts, Dr. Meimaris served as the Team Doctor for Wrangler Pro Rodeo PRCA, International Hispanic Soccer League of New Jersey and New Jersey Gators Swim Team here in New Jersey and an Olympic Swimmer at The World Games in SUNY Buffalo.
DR. MEIMARIS’ TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY
“The key approach to managing the health and well-being of my patients is accurate diagnosis. In addition it takes a careful assessment of the presenting complaint and changing some of the habits that got the patient into pain to begin with. Whether I’m working with a young athlete, the parent of an athlete, a “weekend warrior,” a professional athlete, or just an everyday person, I use a functional approach.
I take into account my patient’s health history, pre-existing conditions, the mechanism of injury, education- or work-related demands, stress levels, etc.”
TECHNIQUES & METHODOLOGY
Dr. Meimaris utilizes Palmer diversified technique and Cox flexion-distraction techniques for treating contained discs. Dr. Meimaris remains abreast of new developments within those techniques and is always individualizing plans for his patients–many of whom are athletes.
In addition to the treatment of sports-related injuries and maintaining optimum body mechanics and function, he teaches the patient the kinematic chain (how the body parts relate to one another in an athletic arena).
INSURANCE
Dr. Meimaris is in-network with numerous insurance plans, including Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey and Aetna. He also accepts most credit cards as payment for services rendered. For those without insurance, there are cash plans for self- pay patients are available.

2. One of the best in his field
I have had a chronic neck pain for years and went to two different therapists for treatment with no lasting relief. I contacted Dr. Meimaris to see what he could recommend for treatment. At the first visit we spent time discussing my condition and came up with a plan on how he would treat my pain. The key to me was the straight forward approach that he took in understanding my problem. Within 2 visits I was getting relief and as he progressed he always explained how the treatments could and would help. It became clear that there will never be a complete cure for my condition but the relief is something I can live with and avoid surgery. His patience and understanding sets him apart from others in his field.

3. Excellent Experience
About 5 years ago I injured my back. Blown disks. The first orthopedic I saw told me I needed surgery. 2nd Opinion Ortho tried epidural and sent me to therapy. After six months, therapy was not helping and I did not want surgery. I was in quite a lot of pain and at the breaking point. That is when someone told me about Dr. Memaris. As this was my first time seeing a chiropractor I did not know what to expect. The first few sessions gave me hope as my pain decreased a little. Going on a regular basis kept everything from getting stiff. My range of movement started to improve. When I started treatment with Dr. Memaris I could not walk up and down my basement stairs to do laundry. It took me about 6 months until I could do the stairs again.
First I was doing stairs one at a time and then finally taking them in normal fashion. I continued treatment on a regular basis for about 2 years. I have a lot of back problems and I am overweight which certainly contributes to the problems, so I do have flare ups from time to time. Dr. Memaris always straightens me out, so to say. No surgery to this day. Just a chriopractic appt. needed.
He is very professional and really knows what he is talking about. Also has a great sense of humor which to me is one of the best qualities a person can have. I have recommended him to several of my friends who have gone to chiropractors in the past, and they all were quite impressed with his knowledge and expertise.

4. Amazing Service , Uttmost Proffessionalism
When I went to Dr Meimaris , I was in extreme discomfort. Recurring lower back issues and stabbing pain in my neck had affected my quality of life beyond measure and Demetri took me in like family and gave me relief via treatment and exercise techniques . Even arranged for me to get a TENS unit to give me relief between treatments.
His knowledge of the spine , nerves and overall body was amazing . The personal attention he gave me aided my road to recovery and resuming normal activities with my children i thought would be otherwise impossible. I have been a patient of Dr. Meimaris since 1989. In that time, he has always been extremely diligent and very generous with his time. Many chiropractors churn their patients in and out like an assembly line. Dr. Meimaris always taken a lot of time with me. In addition, he never settles for the "easy" solution with a difficult case. What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
A careful case history, complete examination and a review of films (if available) is conducted. Also considered is the mechanism of injury and the affect on the patient's daily living is integrated and explained. Once this is completed and a preliminary diagnosis is determined, a report of findings is presented and a course of care is outlined as to the needs of each individual patient.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In addition to receiving my chiropractic degree from Palmer College in 1984, (DC, Doctor of Chiropractic), I am a certified chiropractic sports physician, (CCSP), a degree received by New York Chiropractic College in 1993. I am a former Team Doctor for the United States Nartional Karate Federation, Apex Wrestling Team and currently serve as the Team Doctor for NASA, (National Auto Sport Association-Northeast) and Bergen Rowing Team.
