About this pro

My Name is Dr. Michael Williams and I provide counseling here at Selah Mountain in Albuquerque, NM. My counseling is unique in that it not only helps to manage the struggles of life that commonly affect all levels of your thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and experiences: But, I also work with you at your deepest spiritual level which is the foundation of the other levels. I use a variety of counseling techniques that make up what I call, Cognitive Spiritual Therapy (CST). We have had great success over the past 18 years helping people from all walks of life to overcome issues using CST.

I have over 20 years’ experience as a former health care professional including working with children and families while teaching pediatrics and other medically related subjects. I also have 18 years’ experience in counseling with masters and doctorate level training in counseling and education.

I take great joy and satisfaction in helping people to overcome life issues that keep them from experiencing hope and victory in their life. Not only that, but it is amazing and rewarding to see them go on to accomplish great things in their life and use what they have learned to be a positive role model and help others around them that may be experiencing the same struggles.

How did you get started in this business?

Early in our marriage, my wife and I needed help with our relationship. However, we learned that there was a variety of different counseling methods with differing approaches and philosophies that did not have high levels of success or target what was really needed. Likewise, I was a former health care professional that taught pediatrics and other medically related subjects such as pharmacology. I realized that many providers focused on using medications without spending the time and effort needed to dig deep into the hearts of people with practical instruction that addresses the Spiritual foundations of who they are as a person and how they live their life. This inspired me to go back to school and learn what I needed to know to put together a Spiritual approach that I call Cognitive Spiritual Therapy. My doctoral dissertation presented and proved that the roots of who we are Spiritually has a direct relationship on our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that motivate us in all that we do. Many years of application have proven that what we knew we needed all those years ago was what we now joyfully provide for others with extremely high levels of success.

What types of customers have you worked with?

Children, families, parenting, all belief systems, addicts, anger management, marriage counseling, anxiety, depression, nutritional deficits and behavior modifucation, grief, ADD/ADHD, bipolar, all life issues. Organizational leadership and administration, employee development, curriculum development and delivery.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

A young lady had an extremely bad relationship with her family, especially her mother, that was related to deep rooted spiritual issues. Over a three-month period, we worked on her issues with her family. A year later I saw her in a store buying what looked to be snacks for a trip. We had a conversation and I learned that her life and relationship changes with her family inspired her so much that she was leaving to go to school in another state, so she can learn how to help others in Brazil that were being served by missionaries there.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?

Ask them what their success rates are and what their motivation is to help others. If their success rates are not very high and they are not excited to see what great things they will get to do to help people, then look elsewhere. Likewise, if the first thing a counselor wants to do is prescribe medications in a non-emergency situation, ask them to explain to you exactly how the medication works in your body and how it will solve your problems as well as what their detailed plan is to help you practically make the changes you need to be victorious beyond just learning to live or cope with your issues. Feeling better is one thing, actually being better quite another.
