Identify their current IT infrastructure.  Prioritize any issues that create problems for efficiency.  Set up managed services to prevent future issues and allow quick turn around when a problem arrises.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?

Anytime you are looking for IT services ask about their guarantee for their services.  Any customer needing IT help should always be up front and honest about what they know and don't know about their current setup so the pricing is accurate and fair.

What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?

How much time and labor costs are wasted by employees having inefficient technology or processes? The ROI of having fast, proper equipment working in conjunction with proper software is much greater than using aging equipment with outdated software.  Being proactive is always more cost effective with IT and being reactive.
