Lauren Rigney Counseling & Coaching
About
My education and professional background in both the mind and the body give me a unique and effective approach to working with clients. I provide tailored treatment plans that can be integrated into their daily lives. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the State of New York, practicing as a therapist and coach in Manhattan.
My specialty is working with high performers – athletes, creative professionals, lawyers, doctors, and businesspeople – whose lives require intensity, multitasking, and sacrifice. Daily transitions and pressures to achieve can take a toll on you, your family, your social life, and even your personality. Counseling is a way to help keep you balanced and healthy. Coaching is a way to help you get organized and develop skills for achieving your goals.
I believe the relationship between a client and counselor is very important. It is within this relationship that I can help you teach yourself, heal yourself, and make the changes you want to make.
I understand the mind/body/emotion connection very well and my private practice reflects this. You will not be seen as just a reflection of your psychology. I will encourage you to explore many different areas of your life and integrate them along the way to your goals. Your holistic well-being is a priority.
I have a master’s level education in mental health counseling and exercise and sports studies. Prior to becoming a counselor, I was a Division 1 college basketball player; a high school, Division 3, and Division 1 assistant coach; and personal trainer for over a decade. I graduated from a Level V United States Center for Coaching Excellence accredited graduate program.
Outside of private practice, I have worked as a therapist in a non-profit integrative group practice, hospital, college, and as the Clinic Director for a local non-profit out-patient clinic. I have experience treating children, adolescents, and adults with diverse backgrounds and ranges of concerns. I have training in integrative, cognitive-behavioral, and mindfulness therapy as well as sport psychology. I am a humanistic, person-centered therapist.
I am a professional member of the American Counseling Association and a certified member of the National Board of Certified Counselors. In addition to my license, I hold several certifications. I continue to educate myself by attending national and local conferences, keeping up with current therapy research, and seeking supervision.
If you ever have a question, please ask. I do not have all the answers, but I will help you find them.
