Waystation Counseling And Wellness Center
About
I specialize in helping people that have a hard time with therapy. Either it hasn't worked, you've been fired by a therapist, or you have no confidence in therapy working. If you break out in hives when you are asked about your five-year plan, I’m your therapist. I promise to challenge you and make you laugh. I promise a safe space to make mistakes. I named my practice Waystation Counseling because I wanted it to be a place to rest and regroup. I want you to continue on your journey stronger and more self-assured

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I meet with them for a standard 60 minute session. I collect a little information about why they are meeting with me, past history, and if they are looking for a specific modality. I generally talk with them about diagnosis and provide some information if they want. Often we talk about criteria. Then we got on to recommendations. You get to pick your therapy within what I know. Then we generally talk about targets, behaviors and goals you want to work on. You'll generally leave with a good plan.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a MSW and I'm a licensed social worker.
I've received various trainings and I specialize in dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). I've completed courses in skills training and I maintain adherence to DBT protocols.
I've also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) a standard among therapists.
I've been training in Radically Open DBT for overcontrol (OCD, Autism, Anxiety, and treatment resistant depression) and I hope to implement a full program by 2021.
I do trauma work using Cognitive Processing Therapy, a trauma based CBT therapy. It was developed by the VA and is a 12ish week program.
