One of the main services we provide, as well as general mental health individual and couples counseling (depression, anxiety, relationship issues etc.), is a comprehensive outpatient treatment program for men and women with Sexual Addiction. Sexual Addiction is the inability to stop certain sexual behaviors even though they are causing consequences and pain in our and other's lives. This has been a specialty of our clinic for 25 years. People from all over the Twin Cities as well as out state Minnesota and even Western Wisconsin, attend our specialized treatment program. This addiction is complex and not easy to overcome. Our program has been improved over and over again through the years as we have learned what works and what does not. The other way our service stands out is that we all adhere to a philosophy of positive regard and unconditional acceptance and care for our clients. Most people struggle with shame and low self worth to some extent. We live in a culture of shame, judgement and a lack of compassion for those who make mistakes or have problems. We are constantly hearing stories from clients about abuse, neglect, being shamed, betrayal, unfair punishment and rejection. We are committed to providing an enviroment and therapuetic relationship that offers the opposite of these experiences and to serve as an antedote to their negative life experiences. We are also LGBT affirmative and enjoy working with diverse populations. For more information visit our website at cornerstonetherapyandrecovery.com.
What I enjoy most about the work I do is that it has purpose and meaning for me and the people I help. So much of the horrors, destructiveness and evil in our world are a result of trauma and abuse in people's lives that they then act out and displace onto others thus perpetuating the never ending human to human destruction that occues in our world. I believe that the more people who can heal there deep emotional wounds either from earlier in their life or later in their life, the less human to human horrors there will be in the world. I feel like I do my very small part in helping this happen by the work I do.

First we will respond to your call or email (we have an encrypted email system called Hushmail) and ask you what health insurance you have, what the issues are you need help with, what your preference are for a therapist (gender, therapuetic approach and times available) and when you would like to begin therapy. Next, if you want to schedule an appointment, we email you our Intake forms (we can also mail them to you if you prefer) that you can either email back to us after you've filled them out or bring to your first session. We then give your contact information to the therapist that best fits your preferences and that therapist then contacts you and schedules your first appointment.
All of out psychotherapists are licensed to practice psychotherapy by the state of Minnesota. We all have at least a Masters Degree and some of us have a PhD as well. We make sure that we only hire therapists who have at least 5 years of Psychotherapy experience, although most of us have quite a bit more years of experience. Some of us have 25 to 40 years of experience. We also provide specialized training to our therapists and each therpist has to do 40 hours of continuing education to keep their licenses. The therapists that privide treatment for Sex Addiction have all had extensive experience working with sexual issues and addictions.
