About

We take the time to care. Call 763-450-6600 to talk to one of us now. Our clients are all good people who are having some of the worst times in their family life. After over 30 years of family law practice there is nothing we have not seen in some form and we are here to help. Divorce, Child Custody, Legal Separation, Property Division and Family Support are many of the issues we work with every week. We work to make agreements where possible so that you preserve as much of the trust and cooperation as is possible. If that is impossible we can go to court and stand up for your rights. We use Collaborative Law and traditional settlement and litigation strategies.

We help families in their toughest times so those times are as short as we can make them. We use Collaborative Law to be assured of a resolution by settlement whenever it is possible and appropriate. When it is emotionally compelling we seek to not be driven by the emotions and to help you make a dcecision that you will not regret later.

Frequently asked questions

Customers call our office and schedule a free 1/2 hour initial consultation, or a flat fee Preliminary Case Analysis. In the initial consultation we meet and get to know each other and the nature of your case. In the Preliminary Case Analysis we go deeper into your case details and help you plan a strategy. If you can do this case yourself we can discuss how you would do that. If it is complex or likely to be difficult on your own, we will formulate a strategy, discuss how we can help and discuss the various anticipated fees and costs associated with your case.

Glen A. Norton is a Minnesota native, licensed to practice law in all Minnesota Courts as well as the Federal District Court, 8th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the US Supreme Court. He is trained as an Early Neutral Evaluator for financial and social issues and he is a Rule 114 Neutral under the Minnesota Rules of Practice. He is also trained as a Collaborative Attorney and is a member of numerous law practice organizations.

We require a retainer that varies based upon what we anticipate the case will cost. We charge hourly rates for each of our professionals as we work a case. We also pass on all fees and costs we advance.

Glen Norton has been working in the legal profession since the mid-seventies. He started out as a file clerk and messenger, then became a Law Clerk and then a Paralegal Specialist. He graduated from Law School and was admitted to practice in 1986. He opened his own practice then. He has worked inside law firms of various sizes and has been in house counsel for a major corporation in Minnesota. He now runs a family law focused practice in the Carlson Towers located in Minnetonka MN.

Our practice focuses upon families in transition. We have helped couples prepare for marriage with Antenuptial Agreements and Co-habitation Agreements for those not getting married. We work with unmarried parents who need to resolve custody issues. We have assisted couples in dissolving their marriage, both gay and straight, and helped couples who just need a legal separation to stabilize their relationship. We help people who need spousal support and people who need child support or both. We help people and their families who are involved in issues of actual or accused domestic violence.

We were recently pleased when our client, who had been harassed and intimidated through the court process by an opposing party who was acting in bad faith, was awarded over $10,000.00 in compensatory attorneys fees.

We were also recently pleased when a client and spouse reconciled and did not ultimately need to divorce.

Experience matters. You are seeking someone to go alongside of you to stressful and important meetings and hearings. If they have been there frequently the stress will not cause them to forget or fail to anticipate what will come next.

You also want someone who focuses on this area of practice. There are many technicalities we family law attorneys just take as known facts and rules. Any attorney will not necessarily know the special rules or what is likely to become of a strategy which they have never tested in a real conflict.

Think about what will happen in the mind of your other party when you say what you want to say, and plan how to do that without making it impossible to reason with them to an agreement. That will save you thousands of dollars and hours of worry. If it is already beyond that point seek someone who can be diplomatic with the other party and their counsel to reduce the cost by reducing the conflict. If not even that will work, you need someone who has the backbone to just refuse a bad offer and push a court to do justice. Settle if you can, fight if you must.
