About

I am a solo practitioner with extensive experience in patent procedures within the USPTO with a particular focus in life science patents, incuding large and small molecule therapeutics and methods for diagnosis and treatment, as well as transgenic plants, CRISPR technologies, medical devices, and more. My practice includes analyses for product clearance (freedom to operate), competitive space, and assessments of patentability.

I am a seasoned IP attorney with a passion for helping clients to navigate the patenting process in the US and globally, and to successfully navigate the many requirements. I work with large and small companies, and with individual attorneys. Mine is a solo practice that permits me to work closely with inventors and clients to to achieve their business goals. I have practiced IP law for more than 25 years, and am licensed to practice in Texas, Minnesota, Massachusetts, and in the USPTO, as well as in the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court for Amicus briefings.

I enjoy the challenge of converting an inventor's technology into a robust patent application, by understanding the science behind the invention and making sure the text of the patent application and particularly the inventor's working examples adequately represent how the invention is made and used, and how the patent claims are fully supported by the specification and examples provided. I enjoy learning new aspects of technology with each patent application that I am lucky enough to draft and prosecute.
