About

We are a small, casual tax preparing company. We have many years of experience and have started our own company. We have an office in Circle Pines, MN. If that does not work for you, we can also come to you if need be or we are also able to do returns 100% electronically. We will beat any price you paid for your prior years tax returns as long as they are the same forms. We also are offering a 10% discount for all of your 2019 tax returns.

We enjoy helping people find better ways to file their tax returns and learn about other options that might be available to them to lessen their tax liability each year. It's always an enjoyable moment for everyone when you can figure out a way to save customers money or find ways to get them a little extra at tax time!

We were extremely happy with our appointment with Nate and Derek at Simply Tax. Nate was very knowledgeable in every area of the tax return. It was such a relief to have our taxes done this year without any problems with the accountant. Thank you very much for making our tax appointment a really good experience and we look forward to working with you for many more years to come.

    Frequently asked questions

We will have a discussion to review the types of items that the customer has and the situation they might be in. We want to understand their situation as fully as possible to provide the best solution for their situation.

The primary tax preparer has a bachelors in accounting, 4 years in public accounting preparing individual, partnership, and corporate returns, and 3 years as a state field auditor, auditing individuals and company tax returns while specializing in the audit of sales and use tax returns.

Although there is not a standard price for the returns, the normal individual tax return generally starts out at $125. This varies greatly depending on the complexity of the tax return.

Nate had started working for a teacher shortly before he graduated accounting school. He was preparing Pilot tax returns for individuals. He then went to audit for the state of WI. After doing that for a while he felt that preparing returns instead of auditing them was his calling. He then went back into public accounting for about 3 years. After that time he decided to open his own company with the help of a business partner. His business partner, Derek, had been in the business of managing restaurants for the past 26 years and is now looking to concentrate on the accounting aspect of businesses and individuals.

We have worked with customers from all types of demographics. From young kids with a single w-2 to citizens living abroad with foreign income situations. We have worked with a multitude of businesses from rentals to large corporations in other states. We have done construction to hair stylists to media advertising to hat makers and more!

One of my favorite experiences as a tax preparer was helping an individual learn of a different way he could legally file. It was found that he had been choosing a poor filing status because he believed he had to file that way. After researching a little into the tax law of his state, it was found that he could file another way and he ended up saving over $7,500 in tax that year with the ability to amend prior years.

Always meet with your tax preparer. There are many people, especially with technology these days, that like to do things 100% electronically. I believe its always a great idea to meet with your tax preparer at least once. Make sure they are asking questions and trying to find out your unique situation so they are able to help you in the best way possible.

Try to have the best idea of your situation as possible. Sometimes there are small things in tax that can have a large impact. Things you might not think are relevant could be very important. If you think anything might have an effect on your tax return, keep it and bring it up to your tax preparer. If its nothing, its better to know then to have to amend a return later and find out you might now owe, or possibly have penalties or interest due to missing information. As always, make sure your tax preparer is asking questions also, or trying to learn your situation. A lot of times just having conversation can bring out information that the accountant needs and the client didn't think of or didn't think mattered.
