About
Filmmakers have time to tell their stories, musicians have audio to invoke a feeling. We have a 2D space that users can scroll up and down on to tell ours. At CurlyHost we have specialized in that digital space to tell meaningful stories for our clients. CurlyHost is made up of an evolving crew of Grand Rapids freelancers who love making WordPress websites. Sure, we have the skillset to do a lot of things, but we prefer helping businesses and nonprofits find their footing in a complicated online space.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Each project starts with a questionnaire with foundational elements like who/what/where/why/when/how and then we deep dive into who your clients are and what they are looking for and worried about. In striving to tell your story accurately online we also put the needs of your users first by making sure they are able to find the things they are looking for.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
We bill at $75/hour and our projects are broken into different phases. We start with mood boards and wireframes, then we get into logo and branding elements, then we start on the layout design, while this is being approved we start the process of nailing down the site map and creating content to fill it, we revise the design to house this content, then we start developing your site and test it across different browsers, at the end we launch the site and train your team in how your website works, optionally after a project launches we work through social media basics and website maintenance.
How did you get started in this business?
I got started because I wanted to strip away the confusing aspects of web design and development. At its core we're helping people tell their story thoughtfully online and that can happen in a lot of different ways. Since 2011 we've worked on over 500 website projects and I love the variations between all of them. We've never made a site that's just a duplicate of another one.
What types of customers have you worked with?
We work with all sorts of people and each one becomes a long term relationship. We value each client and the ability to collaborate with them to tell their story online.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
When thinking about who you want to work with you have to think about who you're allowing to tell your story and whether or not their story is compelling. If your freelancers can't tell their own story creatively then how will they be able to tell yours?
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
A website is an investment. There are plenty of cheap website building programs out there that you can teach yourself if you have a small budget. If you are reaching out to a professional it's because you want to elevate your brand above what you can get with one of those methods. It takes time, thought, and a lot of hard work to create a brand that lasts.
