About
I love tax preparation, and I love helping businesses maximize their potential. That is why I am an EA (Enrolled Agent), instead of a CPA. CPAs are accounting specialists licensed by a state accounting organization, while EAs are tax specialists licensed by the federal government with the privilege of practicing in all 50 states. I serve on the board for EAs in Michigan, and have secured Governor Snyder's "EA Week" declaration in early February each of the last three years.
I am in my 27th year of independent practice. I am always looking to increase my level of expertise, and will be pursuing accreditation this year as an Accredited Business Advisor (ABA), a credential issued by the National Society of Accountants.
We specialize in small service businesses, real estate investors, and truck drivers. We do a lot of full service bookkeeping (and some payroll) for these businesses. And we are good at it and very competitive with our charges.
But I love tax preparation and would do it all year long if I could (actually, I come close!) We purposely price our individual tax returns at half the national average, and discount our business returns almost that much.
I'm new to Thervo, but a veteran of Thumbtack (www.thumbtack.com/biz/affordable-accounting-assistance) and Bark (Affordable Accounting Assistance).

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Every client is different and each service must be customized for the client. No two tax returns are alike, nor are two bookkeeping engagements alike. We discuss the needs with the client, draw up a service agreement, and treat him or her like royalty.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a BA and an MA, with concentrations in accounting, mathematics, pyschology, and ministry.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
We price personal tax returns at one half the national average for a comparable tax return, and discount business tax returns at a 40-45% discount off the national averages.
A good way to estimate our bookkeeping charges are 75c per transaction plus $20 per bank or credit card reconcilaiton needed per period.
What types of customers have you worked with?
With almost every kind from almost every state. 60% of my clientele do not live or work in Michigan. I have a big group of customers in the states of California, New York, Florida, and Texas.
I work with military contractors in the Middle and Far East, have a client who is a native Israeli and now a permanent resident of the US with business both here, Israel, and in Europe, using three different currencies.
Our specialities are service businesses, real estate investors, transportation workers, and expatriots.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Secure a tax professional who carries a credential that requires him or her to keep updated on the tax laws (an EA, CPA, or a tax attorney). All three are held to strict ethical guidelines as well, and will not lead you astray.
