About

Couples Therapy Online

We support over 25 experienced couples therapy specialists collectively working together. All of us have training or certification in one or more science-based couples therapy approaches. We work intensively both on weekends and during the week (online and in-person). Our structured, therapeutic approach is designed to help you slow down and reconnect with yourself and your spouse.

We begin all marriage counseling with an assessment.

Before starting your intensive you will complete our signature online questionnaire. (It's one of the most extensive in the field!) During the feedback session, we spend almost two hours with you, answering questions and helping you to understand what's working, what's not, and how to improve your relationship.

First study, then intervene.

Before you begin any therapy, you'll know what we'll be working on and why.

It's real, science-based help. We really know what we're doing!

This work is based on couples therapy research trusted for over 40 years. We work together as couples therapists with 500+ years of collective experience. We enjoy being effective and our passion is helping couples.

We have locations all across the USA and oversees. Cross-trained in several prominent evidence-based models, our couples therapists will help you to:

-Feel heard, seen and understood.

-Recognize the underlying betrayals and patterns that cause you so much pain.

-Practice concrete tools at home to keep the momentum going.

-Schedule shorter follow-up sessions to get questions answered and provide appropriate guidance.

    Frequently asked questions

Couples Therapy Inc. is a team of over two dozen clinicians practicing in thirty US states and four countries, many with 20-30 years of experience. Couples come to our private intensive retreats and experience the equivalent of 6-months of traditional couples therapy.

Here's what you can expect from your weekend intensive retreat:

When you schedule your intensive, the two of you will start The BIG BIG Book, giving your therapist insight into your relationship before your intensive begins.

Every intensive begins with a State of the Union Assessment, a comprehensive look at your relationship.

Your weekend will focus on the unique needs of your relationship. Typically, you will meet on Friday evening from 6pm-8pm. On Saturday and again on Sunday you will meet from 9:30am - 4:30pm.

You will leave your weekend having the tools and resources to continue your progress at home and we're here if you need additional support.

To get started, we ask everyone to set up a phone consultation. These 15 minutes are yours: ask any questions you may have, see if our services are the right fit, and hear a little more about our therapists. While both partners are welcome to be present for the call, it is not required. You can schedule a time for your consultation call here:

My own relationship challenges and experience with ineffective couples therapy was a painful one. Like most of you, I blamed my marriage instead of the couples therapy I received.

    I then divorced.

Years later, when I learned about science-based couples therapy, I was upset that no one (other than those same institutes...) were talking about how damaging poor couples therapy is.

What passes for therapy with couples continues to this day to be insurance-driven and too often utterly ineffective.

I decided to do something about it.

I began networking with skilled couples therapists and asked them if they'd be willing to devote part of their practice to doing marriage retreats and online couples therapy with me.

I was surprised by the warm reception!

It turns out that they yearned to be part of a true couples therapy team. Most told me it was lonely to be the sole couples therapist among a sea of individual therapists.

    Couples Therapy Inc. was born.

    Our Typical Couple

While no two couples are alike, we most often work with couples who are as invested in being successful in their personal lives as they are in their careers, education, or changing the world.

You are the 'Shakers and Movers' of the world. You may run your own successful business, or lead a large corporation. You may be in IT, an app developer, an inventor, an engineer, or in academia, medicine, or law.

You may be in the public eye, either in sports, entertainment, or in your own therapeutic communities, as a therapist, yourself. You seek out the privacy that only a remote clinical office can provide.

Our international clients are often government employees, diplomats, NGO's or CEO's in multi-national corporations stationed overseas or international teachers. Many travel extensively.

Forget about using your insurance. If you do, your sessions are 50-minutes, instead of a science-based length of 1 hour 20 minutes. Sure, your sessions will be less expensive, but chances are you'll spend 1/2 the time needed to see results.

It is far better to see someone with specialty training every other week, than a generalist in 50-minute blocks.

A recent national survey revealed that 81 percent of all private practice therapists in the United States say that they offer marital therapy. But only about 12 percent of the nation’s licensed therapists are in a profession that requires any course work or supervised clinical experience in marital therapy. How can the average consumer find a good marriage counselor when faced with so many choices?

    1. Choose a marriage counselor with a practice devoted to couples.

We recommend no less than 50% of their practice is seeing couples, as practice makes perfect. Most of our clinicians work strictly with couples.

    2. Pick a couples counselor who is a member of professional organizations devoted to couples.

Consider The American Association for Marriage and Family therapists, The American Association of Sex Educators Counselors and Therapists, or a division of APA that's all about helping couples.

    3. Look for someone who studied and trained in a recognized institute in evidence-based couples therapy.

Two great training institutes are The Gottman Institute and The International Centre for Emotionally-focused Couples Therapy. Both provide extensive training in helping couples.

    4. Choose a therapist who has the right attitude to be a skilled couples therapist.

Two-thirds of marriage counselors are "neutral" about divorce. That's like a surgeon being "neutral" about whether their patient dies in surgery. Sure it happens, but shouldn't you care?
