About this pro

Hey there, I'm Josh Shuster and my company is Ascension Strategies. Ascension is a Tutoring and Behavioral Services business that focuses on LIFE-CHANGING techniques used for anyone and everyone. It is separated into Three Tiers: Tier 1 = Pure Tutoring, Tier 2 = Academic Adaptability (Focuses on Study Skills, Coping Skills, Behavioral Skills, etc.), AND Tier 3 WHICH IS FOR YOU = House/Life Management (Work with everyone in the home to ensure proper safety, proper childcare and meal prep, proper household management with external services, etc.). I intend to help YOU with your DAILY LIFE. Some people say that they need "balance" between work, school, home, etc. I say that what people need is...clarity, focus, and a sense of self-worth. You are strong. You are beautiful. You are worth it. Let me be there for you!

The work that I do isn't work to me. It is a passion to help anybody and everybody who simply WANTS TO CHANGE! I put myself out there for anyone who is willing to accept that they are not mediocre. I put myself out there for anyone who is willing to accept that they can become powerful, even more so than they already are! We work together, synergistically. When I grow, you grow! When you grow, I grow! Sounds like a WIN-WIN to me!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

When working with someone new, I like to build rapport by just chatting and figuring out what matters most. I work with children and adults and the most important aspect of my work is deciding what truly matters the most to them and how we can a plan for accomplishment.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have worked with children and adults for 14+ years in multiple capacities ranging from teaching to behavior therapy. I have a background in biology and education-psychology with extensive experience in leadership, coaching, and consulting with adults and children alike. I have created my own programs as well as being certified in multiple other coaching/consulting programs around the country.

How did you get started in this business?

When I started to work on my own, in November 2016, I finally had an epiphone..."Why is it that whenever I work for another company, the company loses sight of their employees' goals AND thereby, their clients' goals." If a company is to grow, there must be a shared vision amongst a group of people. If that vision is lost OR tainted, then the overall goal is lost. I started this work because I wanted to change the lives of others, by the means of empathy and care. I give, so that they can live.

What types of customers have you worked with?

I have worked with young children. I have worked with adolescent teens. I have worked with adults and parents; with the whole home, inside and outside.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

Not an event, but a summary of one's work...

"We are both thrilled with our son's progress since you've been working with him. This year, his sophomore year of high school, he had virtually no missing assignments and has been working hard to raise his overall GPA to a B average and maintain it. More important, however, is the change we've noticed in his demeanor. He struggles with anxiety, and his academic issues were connected to his inability to handle stress, organize his day and plan for future assignments. Your tutoring has helped him feel more confident and in control of his work (and himself) and the change has been noticed not only by us but by his teachers and counselors as well. Our last meeting with his school support team was nothing but positive; the worry they felt for his freshman year has been replaced by pride in his growth and maturity, and they feel he's made significant progress both academically and personally. This is due largely to your work with him, and we can't thank you enough!"

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?

The most important is how you feel with the professional; if the professional and the client do not "flow" well, then it is not a good fit. Comfortability and trust are key.

What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?

What do you want?

Why do you need help?

What TRULY matters to you in this world?

How can we make this happen?
