Kerry Given, Ph.D., founded Parkwood Capital in 2007 to provide financial coaching and mentoring in stock and option investments. Dr. Given has over thirty years experience focusing on conservative investments in the stock market. He is a frequently invited speaker at the Traders Expo, MoneyShow conferences and several brokerages. Dr. Given has published two books on stock and option investments, both with a conservative investor in mind. What types of customers have you worked with?
Many of my clients have little or no financial background but are interested in either achieving a better understanding of their financial advisor's recommendations, or possibly managing a portion of their investments themselves.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I always enjoy meeting and discussing investment opportunities with people who attend the MoneyShow and TradersExpo conferences. I spoke on Safely Achieving Double Digit Returns at the MoneyShow in Las Vegas in May of 2017 and will be speaking at the MoneyShow in Dallas on October 6th.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a company in your area of expertise?
Have several one on one conversations with the prospective advisor. Be sure he/she fully considers your life situation, goals, and risk tolerance before making recommendations. Beware of cookie cutter formulas for financial portfolio planning.
What questions should customers think through before talking to companies about their needs?
What is the past track record of your portfolio? Has it kept up with the S&P 500 Index?
How much risk are you taking?
Do you understand what investments you currently have and the rationale for that investment mix?
What is your exposure to market corrections? Are any protections in place?
