About

I'm dedicated to providing services that match each client's specific needs; I recognize that no two clients are going to be the same. I don't like to take a cookie cutter approach. I use evidence based treatment methods, modified by the individual.

Currently I provide services at a private practice in Libertyville, Living PONO Counseling, which can be accessed here:

Mental health is one of my life's passions. I have personal experience with therapy, and I know how varying the experience can be. My experiences have influenced my work, and consistently modify my craft to increase efficacy. I love working with people on resolving their issues and empowering them to continue the work on their own. Watching clients grow, transitioning from their lowest low to facing each day with a smile, is rewarding to me.

    Frequently asked questions

Typically upon first contact we'll complete a consultation. We'll review some basic information and background of what the concerns are that should be addressed in treatment. This will help us both decide if we feel that it will be a good fit. At this point, we can schedule an initial appointment. I typically try to schedule within a week of first contact; it can be difficult to initiate services. The sooner I can see you in the office, the better.

When you come in for the first appointment, our first session will focus on building rapport and learning more about your unique situation and experience. We'll complete an evaluation, and discuss your goals for treatment. From there, we'll make a plan for future sessions.

I completed my BA in Social Work at University of Iowa, and my Master's in Social Work at Florida State University. Throughout my schooling experiences I was able to work with various populations in settings that included in home treatment, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs, case management, and outpatient therapy. Since completing my education, I have worked in outpatient treatment programs providing in home intensive services and office-based treatment.

We accept all major insurances, and offer a self-pay reduced rate at $75 per session.

I've worked with children as young as 4 years old to older adults. My experience has been with people of various socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. I have primarily focused on working with clients ages 13 and older, due to the type of treatments I provide, which are focused in talk therapy.

My advice would be to have a talk with the providers that you're considering working with before setting an appointment. Find out what their areas of expertise are, their primary client base, the type of treatment they provide, and this should be a good indicator if you'll be a good match. It can be hard to go through the evaluation process; it's very personal and can be difficult to discuss. Most people don't want to "start over" several times with different providers, and end up staying with someone who isn't a good fit in response. I find it better to figure this out before you start.
