About

IL, MI, IN clients welcome.Tele-Mental Health Certified.

It's true, I am an optimist. After following my own path of healing and making change, I am a firm believer that if you are ready to work through therapy, the therapy will work for you. Sure, there will be hard bits, but I'll be right there with you, guiding you through. Many issues are resolved in 8 to 16 weeks, and I also offer ongoing support.

Self care is care for the whole family, especially during these stressful times. With stressors mounting, and self care options narrowing, making smart use of our resources is especially important. I do therapy in an efficient way, using various directive techniques and strategies.

You can find me on Instagram, theoptimistictherapist.com.lpc, and visit my site for blog posts and other fun stuff. Therapy is serious work, but there is no reason we can't have some fun doing it!

I love being a therapist. After experiencing the power of therapy to transform my life after a tough childhood, I have so much fun watching people learning new strategies and making change in their lives. Through a combination of psycho-education, which offers a better understanding of how the brain works, and supporting clients through compassionate inquiry, clients get to experience themselves in a new way. It is like walking out from under a cloud, and feeling the sun on your face.

I entered the field as an adult after returning to school to finish my bachelors degree. I fell in love with the field, so continued on to get my Masters degree. Evrything I learned could be applied to real life situations, which I found very exciting. Finally, to use my own complex trauma as a means for helping others is an incredible privilege.

I have worked in various settings including emergency room, jail,  school settings, and now, in private practice working from my home. Out of deference to the pandemic, like many others, my counseling practice has moved online. I am happy to report that my clients are experiencing success and change, and some even report that the anxiety of seeing a therapist was decreased by not having to drive to an office and go through reception, etc.!

I work with folks who are basically healthy and functional, but may struggle with particular areas of life. This usually involves some level of anxiety or negative thinking.

Make sure you are a good fit. It is absolutely acceptable to change therapists. If you are uncomfortable with the process, that might be okay, but if you are uncomfortable with the counselor, or their approach, move on. Therapists have pretty thick skin, and we understand that we cannot be all things to all people. We are at our best when we are being our authentic selves. Having good rapport is clinically the most important factor of therapy. If you feel judged, or at odds with some established value, move on until you find a good fit!
