Sherry is super knowledgable but also very personable. My wife and I have been trying to figure everything out with turbotax and she helped clear everything up. We ultimately decided to use Sherry for her expertise and also because Turbotax can't represent us if an audit were to happen.

Sherry was very thorough and provided insight to planning ahead, but also worked to maximize the current tax return. She was very accessible and knowledgeable and provided what was wanted and needed and helped me feel like my needs were important. I appreciated her flexibility and ability to work with my schedule with planning a time to connect as well!

We have been with Borshoff since December of 2018, we have a busy medical practice and they have made our lives easier. They provide full service accounting customized to your needs, we no longer have to be burdened with reports and payroll etc.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Typically I will meet with them to determine what there needs actually are, and if we both agree that I can help them, we will enter into an official engagement via a letter that outlines the scope of the work, and what my responsabilities are and what the client's responsabilites are.  This makes our professional relationship official and keeps everything clear.  I then provide the client with a tax preparation guide which helps them gather the information and materials that will be needed to help me help them.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

My education includes: IUPUI, Indianapolis, IN - Certificate in Paralegal Science (1986), Bachelor of Science in Accounting (1991), New Horizons Technical Learning Center - Advanced Crystal Reports Training (1998), SQL Database Training (2007), Gleim Advanced Tax Training - IRS Enrolled Agent (2016)

Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.

Yes we do offer menu pricing.  The pricing is based on the nature and scope of the work being preformed.  A price list will be made available upon request.

How did you get started in this business?

Sherry S. Borshoff began her professional life working as a paralegal for the tax department at Krieg, DeVault, Alexander & Kapehart, a medium sized law firm located in downtown Indianapolis. In 1991, she received her bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Indiana University, and she worked for Clauseman & Associates, CPA’s, for two years before moving on to Clancy’s, Inc. a multi-unit restaurant company, where she was instrumental in developing the accounting systems, communications, processes and procedures for Clancy’s Inc. and their twenty-one restaurants located across Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. In July 2000, she was recruited to work for Indianapolis Electric Company, Inc. as her accounting and information technology skills were needed to implement a specialty accounting software which the company had purchased, she implemented that software, and the policies and procedures that were required, and she ran their accounting and information technology functions, also acting as a liaison to the Eli Lilly & Company, Management and Accounting teams. In mid-2009, a dear family member was diagnosed with cancer which had metastasized to her brain, and so she took a leave from her corporate responsibilities to care for her ailing familial member and help get their affairs in order. From 2010 through April 2011, she worked for Central Restaurant Products, LLC., as a Financial Business Advisor, and in May 2011 she made the decision to begin her own tax consulting firm Borshoff Consulting, LLC.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?

Do not shop for a professional solely on price.  Check their reviews, pay attention to thier licensing and certifications.  Make sure that they have a PTIN, and make sure that they can E-file your returns for you.  Depending on what the client needs, they should be asking questions about the professional's experience in those areas of need.

What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?

If you don't know what you need, it's going to be difficult for a professional to help you.  So, think about what it is you need.  I provide a tax preparation guide to my clients and potential clients that will get you thinking about what may be needed and what you may need to provide.  Ultimately it is You (the taxpayer) who is responsible for what is reported on your tax returns, so if you don't understand the return, ask your professional to explain it.
