Kathie's Tax Service
About
I am proud of the fact that my clients are rarely audited and when they are we are usually able to resolve the issue in the client's favor (at no extra cost to them) unless it is due to them not being honest with us about something such as claiming a child is theirs when in reality he/she is not related.
We are always up front about our fees and fact that we satisfy all IRS requirements. When we file a return we feel very confident it is correct and complete.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First and foremost, go over my fees. Then I gather all the basic information on them that I will need to complete a tax return. After completing the return I go over it and explain every figure on the return so they know it is accurate. For bookkeeping customers, again, I go over my fees up front. Then I explain what all procedures are included in my services (i.e. payroll, reports, filing of quarterly employee reports, preparing W-2s and 1099s, etc). I then gather all the needed information about their business.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Though not employed by him I was mentored by a very reputable CPA friend and beside his help was basically self taught in bookkeeping and tax procedures. I have always taken continuing education courses annually, attend annual tax seminars and took and passed the certified return preparer test which was offered a few years ago.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Yes, I have a fee schedule which I share with every potential client before doing any work for them.
How did you get started in this business?
I have always been somewhat of a "whiz" at anything mathematical and began doing bookkeeping when a personal friend who was in IRS trouble asked me to help him get straightened out and then keep records for him. Word of mouth brought me more clients.
What types of customers have you worked with?
All types
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Our city, unfortunately, has numerous unscrupulous tax preparers and I am lproud to say I have worked closely and diligently with the IRS which led to at least 2 of them being imprisoned and fined. I have worked with numerous of their former clients and helped them to clear up their IRS problems as a result of using these preparers. One in particular owed IRS over $20,000 and had decided to "just not file" anymore. I helped him to get cleared up (took about 4 years to do so) and he now receives the refunds he is entitled to each year.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Make sure the preparer discusses fees up front and that they go over your return, give you adequate time to ask questions, and give you a copy of ALL paperwork.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Is this pro available to me year round should I need additional help to deal with IRS later. What are the fees I will be charged and are they explained beforehand.
