Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Clients contact us about their issues and engage in a short free consultation to determine whether they are a good fit with our expertise and skills. This is followed by a full assessment to gather information, assess needs and discussion of goals. The sessions tend to be once weekly until we decide together that the individual, couple or family is ready for an incremental decrease in services moving toward discharge. We use progress toward goals, learning of and implementation of skills, a decrease in emotional distress and an increase in life satisfaction as our indicators of this readiness.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a Masters in Clinical Psychology and am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I hold specialization certifications in a several areas including trauma, LGBTQ issues, stress management. My licensure requires continuing education. I focus on areas of specialized interest including mindfulness, trauma, stress management, mood issues, LGBTQ, and coaching, as well as ethical and video based counseling. I am also certified as a supervisor for other counselors.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Yes. We have standard private pay rates. However, many people have insurance that they want to use. Because these plans are varied in their structure, what each person pays will depend on factors like deductibles, copays, and coinsurances. We are open to helping you with figuring this out and will run your insurance to help you find out if provided with the pertinent information to do so. Please visit our website for more information about the pricing structure or email or call us to get more personalized information about insurance. Coaching is generally not covered by insurance and our standard fee is $100.00 per session.
How did you get started in this business?
Like many other people, I first sought my own guidance about things I wanted to change in my own life. I found the process helpful in moving my life in a positive direction that I wanted to go and connected on a personal level with helping others to create that same sense of personal fulfillment in their lives.
What types of customers have you worked with?
We work with individuals, couples, and families on relationship and daily living issues that interfere with emotional fulfillment. These issues cause anxiety, depression and emotional distress. We have specialized training in anxiety, depression, trauma, couples and families and have years of experience in those areas.
We also provide professional training and presentations for EAP providers, conduct training and workshops for other mental health professionals and conduct support and process groups.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently, I worked with a highly functioning woman in her 40's and helped her connect with making some changes around transitioning her life to a more fulfilling place. That involved job changes, resolving relationship issues, addressing stumbling blocks she was putting in her own way and finding answers to personal life questions.
I also worked with a couple who had serious issues that threatened divorce: including infidelity, communication problems, unrealistic expectations and high levels of resentment and anger. It took time, but they are learning to let go of their collection of wrongs, anger and resentment. They learned to talk to each other to identify what they wanted to do to save their marriage and move forward on a new path together into their future.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Hire someone that has spent some time educating themselves and working in the field of counseling. Someone who has the experience and skills to help you plan to get you to your goals and possesses the expertise to teach the skills for you to be successful in reaching them.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Many people see counselors or therapists as engaged in long term ongoing therapy, coaching or psychoanalysis. That has its place with a few individuals. But coaching and counseling can be short term, obtain meaningful goals and be solution focused. Each situation and your personal goals dictate the length of engagement.
