About

Advanced Back & Neck Pain Center has been providing chiropractic services and treatment to the Newark, Delaware and surrounding areas since 1986. Under the guidance of founder, Dr. Richard McKay, the office has become synonymous with high level, affordable and efficient chiropractic care and pain management services that do not require the application of medications and/or surgery.

Over the past five years, Dr. Richard McKay’s son, Dr. Travis McKay, has become an integral part of the practice and has taken over the role as clinical director of treatment. Together, the two Dr. McKay’s have established a treatment paradigm that involves and applies different parts of chiropractic, physical therapy, massage therapy, and supplementation in order to give their patients the best results; meaning less pain, more mobility, and better function overall.

This approach hasn’t gone unnoticed, as Advanced Back & Neck Pain Center has been named Delaware’s Best Chiropractor by the News Journal for 2015, 2016, and 2017! Even though the ideas and treatment applications may be complex, the general governing idea of the two Dr. McKay’s is simple: give our patients the best chiropractic experience they’ve ever had, guaranteed!

The best part about our job is getting patients better without having to rely on any medicine or surgery. There is absolutely a place for medication, but when it comes to dealing with pain, medicine can only ever address the symptom and not the cause. The human body is a pretty amazing thing, and through chiropractic care, we've been able to help thousands of patients feel better, move better, function better and live better!

Frequently asked questions

What to Expect

Since chiropractic care involves a series of visits, (with each one building on the ones before), it’s important that our relationship can go the distance. We’ve found that one of the best ways to build successful patient relationships is to explain everything in advance. In other words, no surprises!

Your First Visit

Make Yourself at Home

You’ll be greeted warmly and made to feel welcome as soon as you enter the Advanced Back & Neck Pain Center. First you’ll be asked to sign in; then you’ll be directed to our desk to fill out new patient paperwork. Next, the following information may be requested:

  • Your medical background

  • Medication lists

  • A photo ID

  • A health insurance card

If you’re referred to us because of an accident, worker’s comp, or a motor vehicle accident, you’ll need to complete additional paperwork. If time allows, you may be asked to fill it out during the first visit; otherwise we’ll send it home for you to bring for your second visit.

We Explain Everything First

After the paperwork portion of the first visit is completed, you’ll be taken to one of our exam rooms to discuss any further medical history questions in detail. You’ll also meet one of our doctors for your chiropratic consultation. Once everything has been explained and your questions have been answered, we’ll get you started on the path to reducing your pain/problem on this very first visit with in-office therapy and at-home care recommendations.

If the doctor deems it necessary, you may have x-rays taken. Before leaving your initial visit, you’ll be escorted to our therapy station for some electrical stimulation and/or cold laser therapy. You’ll also be given a packet to take home with important chiropractic information. Ice therapy will be explained followed by a Q&A session to answer any questions you may have regarding anything that happens in the office or what to expect during subsequent office visits.

Once we agree on your care plan (and before leaving your first visit), you’ll be asked to schedule part two of your consultation at the front desk. We’ll also make sure that you have ice packs at home; otherwise we’ll provide them if necessary.
