I Help Develop Your Emotional Intelligence so you become interpersonally aware and competent. In today’s workplaces, "human competencies" are critical to success. Intellectual and technical competencies alone do not ensure high performance or sustain effective workplaces.
I Am Committed to protecting and assuring your right to privacy. For our working relationship to be effective it is critical for our conversations to remain confidential to create a safe environment, for honest reflection and for you to think out loud.
I value seeing people doing work that is a good match to their skills, abilities and values. We spend too much time in work for it not to be satisfying.
Although we may have spent many years in school, we haven't learned much about how to chose work that that is a good match to who we are and we can actually enjoy.
I often think that a tropical rain forest plant will not thrive if planted in a desert, no matter how hard it tries.
I have been doing career consutlg for 28 years, first with the largest pubically-traded firmin the world then started Odyssey Consulting (with a partner) where our focus is on all the human "stuff" that makes an individual or team successful.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
CAREER MANAGEMENT CONSULTING
Being successful in a career transition is not an easy process for those who are working alone. Often individuals begin a job search after college, or when their position has been eliminated, or when they are unhappy and demoralized with a current position and their self-confidence has been shaken. Obtaining career management consulting can be a critical success factor in making a viable and satisfying career choice. A job search is not a shot in the dark; it has a structure of sequential phases; within this structure there is plenty of space for creativity and attention to individual needs.
A skilled career coach will tailor the process to the individual. Concerns, fears, dreams, values and personal issues will be considered. An effective coach will be behind their client every step of the way; advising, teaching, critiquing, motivating, inspiring, guiding, and supporting.
Sometimes individuals need assistance in only a part of the process.
Preparation can include work with the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator to begin assessing strengths, typical contributions to organizations, areas that need development, what is needed for career satisfaction, assets and potential pitfalls for the job search. Accomplishments are identified and from this, an ability analysis pinpoints transferable skills. Current values are clarified and prioritized, and subsequent decisions are made based on these values. What is needed in terms of organizational culture is identified. Areas of interest and dreams are explored, and a marketing plan is developed to explore industries or industry segments that reflect these interests. A résumé is then created to best reflect the individual’s uniqueness. We thoroughly go over how (and why) to develop a network, who will be contacted, for what purpose, how will meetings be set up, what will be said, and how to follow up. Job searchers are prepared and ready when they begin to network. We review how to search for advertised positions, how best to apply, what effective cover letters include, and how to use search firms and the internet.
Market Research is work for the investigative reporter in us. We are well prepared to meet with people in our network to collect the information we need to make sound decisions about the next step in our career. Individuals are coached and encouraged every step of the way; we are also marketing ourselves in this phase. Available positions are uncovered and pursued. Interviewing and negotiation skills are honed.
Focus & Affirmation At every point in market research, we are evaluating the information that is collected and fine-tuning our direction. Some assumptions may be affirmed, and new ideas may be garnered. Values are continually utilized as a rudder to keep on course. Difficult interviewing and negotiating situations are discussed and practiced. The search is narrowed to industries or segments found viable, and a final plan is devised to move in for closure.
