Describe a recent event you are fond of.
When new clients use our services, if possible, we review 2-3 years in prior year tax returns. We look at patterns and ask additional questions.
A month ago, we found a client an extra $2318 in Education credits. By digging deeper into a situation, many times deductions were overlooked because the client assumed they did not qualify and did not offer the information to the tax preparer. We amended the return and they received $2318 additional refund.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Look for someone who is experienced (with a PTIN), and who cares about helping you. Are you able to communicate with them all year long? Can you ask them questions? Is your information safe with them? And finally, make sure they follow the tax code and professional ethics. (THEY MUST SIGN YOUR TAX RETURN AS A PAID PREPARER)
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Do I have tax documents to provide my tax accountant?
Am I able to discuss private financial sitations with a professional?
