Healthy Habits Massage
About
I have over thirty years experience as a massage therapist. I blend a variety of modelities to suit each individual's needs, which include Swedish/Esalen, Deep Tissue, Sports Massage, Orthobionomy, Trigger Point Therapy, Reflexology and I do muscle testing when working with injuries.
I give a very thorough massage and educate the client about things that I learn about their body, with suggestions about posture, herbs, stretches and exercises to improve their lives.
I most enjoy helping people move through life more easily and the gratification I recieve from them in return. I like to encourage people to treasure their health and it will reward them in kind. Healthy people are much more likely to be happy people. I am here to help them on the first steps in that journey to better health. I am also a nutrition consultant and a humorist. Humor is our best defence against insanity, in a world gone mad.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new client?
I have them fill out a client information form. We then go over the form and talk about their needs, injuries, etc. If there are injuries I will do muscle testing to incriminate the muscles and inert structures involved. I always ask what type of pressure they prefer and check in with them throughout the session. I ask them to let me know if they want more or less pressure durring the massage and to let me know if they discover any sore or sensitive areas.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have completed a 500 hour course at the New Age School of Holistic Health in 1990. I took an Anatomy class in 1988 at the Santa Rosa Junior College, where we dissected a human cadaver and then repeated the second level of massage training. I studied nutrition at what is now the Bauman College, from 1991 to 1994. I also studied herbalogy with Beth Riddle in 1998, for ten months. I have have taken many workshops over the years as well as teaching many workshops myself.
Do you have a standard pricing system? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $60 an hour and $85 for an hour and a half. I have a page on my website, www.healthyhabitsmassage.net, with a list of prepaid packages that help bring down the rates for my work. I also reward clients for referrals.
How did you get started?
Working out of my home in 1986, when I first started massage school. I practiced on a lot of my friends and worked out of the student clinic at the massage school.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked at three different spas in Calistoga, CA in a period of twenty years, where I have worked on thousands of people of all sizes and shapes. I have also been doing sports massage at outdoor events these many years, like the Inside Trails running event this last weekend. I have a massage chair that I take to businesses and for the last two years I have had a booth for massge at the Forestville Farmers Market.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have worked at many events at Sunce Winery, where my favorite is the grape stomping contests. Everyone is upbeat and excited to be involved in this contest. Many of the contestants like to get massage before they stomp the grapes and some winners have attributed their succes to my massage work.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a professional in your area of expertise?
I would advise them to ask friends for a referal, look on Yelp for reviews and look for someone who has good training, experience and is ethical.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their needs?
Think about your immediate needs, long term goals and your health history. Ask the therapist if they have ever worked with someone who has had a similar problem or goal.
