About

I am a licensed professional with over 10 years of counseling experience helping people with anxiety become relaxed, focused, and productive. I offer either in-office (Davis, CA) or video counseling (California residents only). I provide out-of-network health insurance coverage as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation.

Since earning a Master’s Degree in Social Work in 2006, I have utilized evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness, especially the work of Eckhart Tolle and Byron Katie, to help individuals gain new perspectives and deepen appreciation for themselves, other people, and life situations. My approach is person-centered, presence-oriented, and solution-focused and designed to help individuals both in person and through video counseling to create effective changes and to live authentically.

Previously, I worked in college counseling centers and higher education providing personal counseling to college students and teaching interpersonal communication as an adjunct professor.

I love to help people with anxiety and stress using techniques that I practice everyday, which have proven invaluable in helping my clients, as well as myself, to overcome emotional, cognitive, and practical challenges. Whether in person or through video counseling, I love the work that I do because it is truly inspiring to see people transform and achieve emotional, interpersonal, and professional goals. Helping people learn new skills that can lead them to happiness is as fulfilling as any job I can imagine.

I had the pleasure of working with Kevin for about a year. He is extremely good at what he does and it took me just 2 sessions with him to transform my life for the better after being in depression for about 3 years. He is very compassionate and non judgemental which makes it easy to open up about your life and be at ease. His approach is simple, yet profound and transformative which I liked the best. I highly recommend Kevin to anyone out there who is looking to seek help from a warm, competent and a supportive therapist. I am extremely grateful to Kevin for the huge difference he has made in my life. Thank you very much Kevin for helping me turn my life around!

I originally began seeing Kevin for issues surrounding chronic pain. I had been extremely attached to the condition of my body for years as a frequent gym-goer and moderately athletic person, and now that it was falling apart and totally out of my control, I was immensely distraught, experiencing intense bouts of anxiety, fear, and depression surrounding my perception of what would happen to me in the future. Kevin was able to help me be totally free from my over-attachment to my body and the surrounding negative thoughts and beliefs, and the resulting clarity of mind and inner peace I experienced as a result of his support allowed my body to stabilize and also for me to properly begin rectifying my physical situation. The clarity of mind I gained from working with Kevin also allowed me to improve and perform better in other areas of my life, making clearer decisions and understanding clearly what was most important to me. I now enjoy continuing to work with Kevin to improve my focus and sense of direction in other areas of my life.

Frequently asked questions

My first step would be to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation to ensure that my approach is a good fit for both of us. Subsequent sessions are all 45 minutes and are usually scheduled one week apart. The first two sessions are typically evaluation sessions and designed to clarify therapy goals. The total number of weekly sessions varies with each individual and can range from one session to six months or more.

I work with individual adults who seek short- and long-term relief from some form of anxiety or stress (e.g. worry, panic, social anxiety, overthinking). I counsel adults of all ages including many college students and young adults. I see many clients in person, others through video counseling, and some in both formats.

My approach employs evidence-based practices of Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Mindfulness can help train you to relax, helping you to feel grounded and mentally clear. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can help you adopt more useful perspectives. To reinforce interpersonal awareness, I emphasize communication skills. I also utilize the teachings of Eckhart Tolle and Byron Katie to help you appreciate the present moment and reinforce a joyful, peaceful way of being.

Additional information about the process of getting started is available on the FAQ page of my website: https://www.davisanxietycounseling.com/faq/

In 2006, I earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work. I am trained as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). In order to refine my skills, I have studied (through reading, workshops, and Continuing Education) the disciplines of Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and communication skills. In addition, I have attended multiple events taught by Eckhart Tolle and Byron Katie, whose teachings have helped me refine my own approach.

In addition to offering therapy in private practice, I have five years of experience providing treatment to college students with anxiety, stress, panic, and social anxiety at the college counseling centers of Manhattan College and the College at Old Westbury. I also have taught college courses in meditation, Interpersonal Communication, and Public Speaking.

Further biographical information is available on the About Me page of my website: https://www.davisanxietycounseling.com/about-me/

I first provide a free 15-minute phone consultation to give us both a chance to see if we are a good fit. My fee for both in-person and video counseling is $150 per 45-minute session, including the initial intake session. I accept credit cards, checks or cash. In addition, I provide “out-of-network” health insurance coverage, so I can supply you with a statement that you can submit to your insurance company; health providers typically offer partial reimbursement for mental health counseling. With out-of-network insurance, payments are made directly to me, and your insurance company would send you any reimbursements that are covered by your plan.

I taught community and college courses in meditation and communication (e.g. Interpersonal Communication, Public Speaking) and felt great satisfaction in helping people learn to relax and communicate well. Practicing new ways of becoming more grounded and interacting with others also helped me feel more joy in life. I believed that the most effective way for me to share these techniques would be to spend time one-on-one with individuals, so I became a counselor. Since becoming a counselor in 2006, I have felt fulfilled in helping people change and inspired to see them attain their goals.

After initially offering counseling in an office setting, I had the opportunity to provide video counseling with a few individuals. I was surprised that video counseling seemed as effective as in-person counseling (note: research supports this conclusion). I currently enjoy a combination of seeing people in person (in Davis, California) and providing video counseling for individuals who reside in other parts of California.

I specialize in anxiety with adults, so I have counseled individuals who have faced the following challenges: generalized anxiety, stress, panic, social anxiety, overthinking, and communication skills. Also, as a counselor for five years at two college counseling centers, I have extensive experience helping college students and young adults. Additionally, I am equally qualified to counsel individuals in person and remotely through video counseling.

More information about my scope of practice is available on the Services page of my website: https://www.davisanxietycounseling.com/services/

My first suggestion would be to look for someone who specializes in the challenge you are facing. For example, I work with adults who have anxiety. In general, counselors specialize when they are passionate about working with a certain population, so they are motivated to learn as much as possible about their expertise to help create effective and efficient change.

Second, with an anxiety specialist, I would suggest looking for a counselor who is as present (e.g. relaxed, focused, calm, peaceful) as possible, so your counselor can serve as a role model to help you change most effectively.

Third, I would suggest finding a counselor who is an expert at communication. That way, you can be taught efficiently how to achieve and maintain a state of inner peace.

If you would like to get a sense of what it would be like to speak with me, I provide a free 15-minute phone consultation, which allows both of us a chance to see if we would work well together.
