We're a virtual agency with multi-media capabilities and yeah yeah yeah...so what. The important bit is this: We bring entertainment back into the science of advertising and marketing. Even when the mission is to hawk off-the-charts complex products or services, we distill the message into pow-right-in-the-kisser ideas.
We've got big-agency creative firepower (no contributor has less than 10 years' experience). But we don't have the glass-and-steel offices or layers of management or unlimited supplies of Doritos. We all bring our own lunch and the only thing our clients pay for is the revenue-generating advertising they came for.
When I'm asked, "how do you get new business?" my answer is always, "do great work." Now, I don't just mean the finished product; I mean the whole process has to be net-positive. I think I'm most flattered when clients tell us they really, truly enjoy coming to our presentations. That's no accident. For one thing, I admit it: I help myself - if there's a joke waiting to happen, I am DEFINITELY not leaving it on the table.
If our clients aren't laughing along the way and getting a real kick out of the creative, that's ... okay, actually I don't know what that's like; it's never happened.
Don't get me wrong: We work hard, and our clients can tell. We make it our job to understand what their products and services actually do (or not). It's our responsibility to help them finesse an inspiring creative brief. (That's a big one; nobody likes to hear that old "garbage-in-garbage-out" speech, especially while reviewing crap creative and wondering how to salvage anything from it.)
After that, it's our job to translate that brief into creative that makes the world stop what they were doing for one, two, three and....counting...and the longer we can entertain our audience, the greater the chance they'll care about whatever it is we're selling.
These companies aren't charity organizations. They pay us to build trust in their brands and funds in their bank accounts. In short: If you're doing it right, advertising and marketing is the most fun you can have while making money.
