Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We have a client questionniare we send out to identify a clients' volume of activity, current pain points, needs & wants. From there we assess their statements and determine what degree of services we need to provide vs. the level of the clients involvement in their own processes.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have an Associates Degree in Accounting from Mira Costa and a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration (emphasis in Accounting) from Cal State San Marcos. I worked 15 years in the private sector, mostly in electrical distribution and have experience inventory/warehouse management, logistics, receivables & collections, payables and vendor relationships, billing, project management, and even inside sales. We are not your average accounting provider... we are more than numbers!!!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
If a client needs a clean up phase for their business, we generally provide a reduced hourly rate for the "project" portion. Once things are up to snuff we move into a maintenance phase and that can be hourly or a flat monthly rate, depending on the clients' needs. One shoe does not fit all so we tailor things to meet specific needs.
How did you get started in this business?
After years of working my way through college, the time had come for me to spread my wings. Due to the recession and family constraints the path of the CPA exam and firm were not the way for me. The roots of my business sprouted from other entrepeneurs who were looking to make a living working for themselves in the "gig economy". I enjoy helping others reinforce that independence!
What types of customers have you worked with?
Info Technology, insurance agents, interior designers, retail merchandisers, luxury service providers, organic consulting, attorneys, contractors, restaurants, hair stylists, artists, and emerging niche industries in California!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
In 2017 a client called me hoping to get their reconciliations caught up within a week, in time for tax time. Once I got a look at their books I had to break the news that much more was required to remedy their situation. They were ready and willing to go through the process, and fortunately, they were eager to learn what they could do to streamline and help themselves! And they did it! Very proud of them! I hardly see them anymore, because they need so little from me on a monthly basis, but that's the way it should be!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Do an honest self inventory of what you can realistically spend time on yourself. Many clients have gone down the road of thinking they can do their own bookkeeping... and find they actually have little time left after managing the operations of their business. Be honest with your accountant about your needs and be prepared to pay them what they are worth... and to get what you pay for. Ask them what you need to do to make sure they can meet your expectations, so you are both on the same page. Last but not least, get a few different quotes before you decide on one person.
