What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I communicate with the client through phone or email and find out what type of website they are looking for, be it e-commerce, informational or something else. It's important to find out right away if it is a straightforward project or if there will be special programming involved. This way I can begin to discuss the timeline, buget and manage expectations realistically. Straightforward e-commerce or informational websites are most common and can be built timely and effectively.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been building websites since 2001. A lot has changed in the way of technology, design trends, User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI); I have always stayed current in regards to all of the above. In addition to being self taught web designer and graphics designer I also have a film degree which allows me to see a vision for flow usability of a website as I look at the overall User Experience. Video is a very important component to the success of websites and I can bring all of it together under one roof.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
No two projects are the same so I tend to communicate with the client first to see what they need before giving pricing. There are some basics that help decide on a project budget but I feel it's important to understand what they need before throwing out arbitrary pricing. I wouldn't want to say a number then find out the project is more or less difficult than expected. I've seen a lot of company advertise they can make beautiful websites for very cheap but "beautiful" is very subjective and they are trying to build them very fast which usually means lower quality. I try to give great quality in every project I build.
How did you get started in this business?
Many years ago I created a website for my band then I started making websites for local companies after I fell in love with website design. I then learned some programming, graphic design and filmmaking so that I had less limitations of what I could do. Now I feel like I am a doctor or guru of website design because I know so much about the field.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Healthcare, Restaurants, Bands, Transportation, Manufacturers, Clothing Companies, Surfing Companies, Sports, Solar, many different webstores and e-commerce websites, Law Firms and service oriented websites.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Give them a call or send them an email. The best way to get a good website is to see if you communicate well with them so that you can do just that...communicate. Good communication between you and your web developer is the best way to get a good website.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
- What are you trying to accomplish with your website? Sales? Leads? Online presence of information or services offered?
- What aesthetic are you looking for? Find some websites that you like and show them to your website designer.
- Features? What features are important to you and what functionality does your website need to have in order to accomplish your online goals.
