The lotus flower is a symbol for rebirth and grows beautiful and pristine from the muckiest of waters. May you find the courage and strength within you to bloom from your despair.

My name is Nalini and I am an AMFT (pending application) that works under licensed supervision with Dr. Thomas Michahelles, LMFT. I have been doing this work for six years and enjoy working with people around many challenges they might face.

My approach is warm, transparent, direct, and attachment- and trauma-informed. My work integrates Relational, Psychodynamic, Somatic, EMDR, EFT couples and Family Therapy, Existential, Experiential, and Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavioral Approaches.

I work with people who are wanting support with acculturation, and multi- or bicultural identity exploration. l work from a culturally sensitive and client centered approach that is informed by Intersectionality and Social Justice perspectives. I also enjoy working with couples and families who are in polyamorous and nonheteronormative relationships and people who identify as gender fluid and nonconforming.

Advanced Training:

I work from a strength based, resiliency approach where clients can encounter their own experience with curiousity. I love helping people connect more, to themselves, to others, and feel liberated from their internal traps that have held them back in life, in relationships, or in loving or connecting more deeply to themselves.

    Frequently asked questions

I have them come to the first session to get a feel for what working with me would be like. If they decide to continue working with me, we confirm the fee (i have a sliding scale), they pay for the session, and set up the next appointment. If they decide it's not a good for, the first session is at no charge.

I work collaboratively work people to determine their goals as well as their challenges so we can understand them together. This can take the first few sessions where I might ask a lot of questions so I can get a sense of what their lives and relationships are like.

I have a Masters in counseling psychology from John F Kennedy University.  I have training in EMDR and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (two theories used to heal trauma) and advanced training in Emotion Focused Couples and Family therapy an evidence based models that works with couples and families to heal conflict.  I have been working with couples and families for 5 years using this model.

I have worked at Bay Area Addiction Research and treatment and Helen Vine Detox center and have experience working people who struggle with with substance use and disordered eating.

I have four years experience family agency working with adolescents and their families who are struggling with drug use, suicide, truancy, and/or are system-involved.

My fee is 140, but I also have a sliding scale that is dependent on income/expenses of the family. We decide this in our first session, which is free if it doesn't feel like a good fit or we can't agree on a fee that works.
