What is your typical process for working with a new client?

I like to sit with my client for an introduction to get to know each other first and find out if we could properly communicate and have the good mind-set.  I need to learn my client's finances and career, their past achievements and future financial plans.  If they have a business, I’d like to learn about it and understand how it’s running, so I may focus on the type of deductions and expenses that I can expect or try to advice.  I don’t believe on spending money to have deductions, that would be a waste of resources & wealth.


What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I've been working in tax preparation since 1976, and after working with H&R Block in Culver City for one season, I taught their classes for two years before moving to Orange County.

I am a Certified Tax Acountant for California since 1994, licensed Realtors since 1989, licensed NMLS since 2010, license Insurance Agent since 2001.


Do you have a standard pricing system? If so, please share the details here.

My pricing is based on the type of work done.

Consultation ranges between $75-125 per hour

Tax Preparation is Form-Based depending on each form used to complete the tax return, and sometimes some additional work done for additional calculations. Usually discussed previously with clients.

Insurance, retirement products and real estate related are all commissions based.


How did you get started?

My previous career was in banking as I worked to being Vice President of Far West Savings & Loan, but when a clients service job turned into politics I converted my side-kick in tax preparation into a full time business and grew from there.  In 1987, the Tax Reform by Reagan got me to work with H&R Block as my 2nd job besides banking then when I quit banking I left H&R Block and moved to Orange County.


What types of customers have you worked with?

In the beginning, I had mostly W-2 employees for clients with some small businesses. When I studied corporate taxation, I became a lot more interested in serving small corporations.  Usually small corporations don't have sufficient resources to have the know-how of running the business financial side the proper way.  That's when I come in.


What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a professional in your area of expertise?

If you hide things about your business from me is like hiding things from your physician and asking for a medication.  We can't prepare you for a good financial position if we don't know everything about your business.


What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their needs?

Cost is the last important item that should be brought to the table.  You might want to save few dollars by declining additinal services, but the additional services may save thousands of dollars.
